Staggered Tires on Squared Wheels?

....which is why I'm trying to cheat and have it all
8 inch wheels all around but stick stagger. My gut feeling and the couple of opinions expressed seem to point towards that being a bad idea

These would have to be some pretty stellar looking wheels for me to compromise on performance that much. Personally im not familiar with what these wheels look like, but to each their own. Not everyone has the same standards on looks/performance ratio. Its great when you dont have to compromise on either of these facets. Its what I try and aim for myself.

Sorry lol In my opinion a sizable part of what makes a wheel package look good on this car aside from the face (some would argue even more so then the face) is to see some width/proportions on the car. Its a beautifully designed car, and there is little more that detracts form that then seeing skinny ass wheels/rubber peaking out from under the fenders, ride height also has some bearing on this. 8" isn't the worst ive seen, but they are just one step away from looking like Veneers, and would, if you sized the tires appropriate for the rim width.
If they are really to die for in face design and assuming the wheel offset is appropriate to do so, id consider having them cut and custom widen the insides, at least in the rear. Depending on the current offset, for $200 a piece you could effectively widen them to 9-10" wide if you wanted and run a proper profiled 225/255 stagger.

8" is not optimal, but if you run a square 225/45/17 setup with a wider-side tire (Advan ad08r, Dunlop zii, BFG Comp 2), it will still be an improvement over ap1 wheels.

Technically you can, but a 245 on an 8" wheel will be like driving around on muffins. Handling will be inconsistent and soft due to the massive overhang / bulging of the sidewall. Pair that with a sloppy tire like the Hankook v12 and you will have a car that handles like a Camry.
that is not true at all!.... i went from stock to the exact setup 17x8 with 245/40r17 bridgestone s001 and there is actualy less sidewall!!!! And there is certainly no bulging or handling of camry...
my other s2000 is also squared on 17x7 with 225/45 and i prefer handling of this setup so i went to 17x8 rim this time.
anyway each to their own but some of you guys should stay away from giving this "theoretical" internet advice especialy if you dont actualy know what you talking about... 17x7 et42 buddyclubs with 225/45/17
