Default Adding another Honda to the garage/driveway

I worked out a deal today on a 1991 Acura Legend sedan with less than 80,000 clicks. I'm buying it for my girlfriend, Bre, kind of a holiday gift. Her current car is a POS, high mileage Ford Escort wagon, that is plagued with problems (electrical gremlins, corrosion, you name it); so, this should be a definite upgrade. Her current car makes me nervous; especially, the potential of it stranding her in Detroit where she works.

Picking up the Legend on Friday. My dad owned a '91 Legend coupe and it was an awesome car. This sedan drove strong, just how I remember my Dad's coupe driving. Carfax checked out clean, regular service, one owner, driven consistently about 3000-4000 miles per year.

It has a couple of minor dents/scratches and a cracked windshield that I want/need to get fixed. My step dad knows a body guy that owes him a favor; so, I may be able to get the dents fixed and painted through him. I want to get them done soon so they don't lend themselves to corrosion over the winter. If anyone in the Detroit area has any other recommendations for reasonably priced body shops let me know. Other than that, the paint looks really good, especially for its age, and I also noticed that the headlight lenses looked surprisingly clear (alot less clouded than my 2002 Audi).

I read that head gasket failures tend to be the only major issue with these cars; we should be a ways from that mileage-wise, and I didn't see any evidence of a failure on this car (no oil in the coolant, no coolant in the oil, no burnt coolant out the tailpipe, no coolant leaking, etc), but if anyone has anyone has any preventative tips on extending head gasket life, please post up. Thanks!

I really think these 2nd gen Legends are alot better looking than some of the newer Acuras and hope this one's got some good life left in her.

Nice, Look in my sig, i had a Legend for awhile, then moved north and lost tabs on where my dad kept having it moved to.

Brother had one also, fun cars, good power, kind of a sleeper.

Just a PITA to change the transmisions on them, cramped engine bay.

i owned the same 91 legend sedan a few years back. It's a great car but there was one glitch with mine. When it gets really cold outside, the steering gets extremely stiff. I had to jiggle the wheel left and right for a few minutes until the steering got loose. You might not have the problem but just a freindly heads up.

cheers

If that happens, change the power steering fluid and it should be better.
