Perhaps, but for me it was a necessary evil. I'd like to say I was in before it got lame, but in reality, it exposed me to the whole car scene in general. Then I found track days and autox.

True, it'd be ignorant for me to think that this movie brought out only negative attention but the ratio from ricers to racers favors the ricers. There was a pretty decent tuner scene before the movie came out. We had car shows and drag events like HIN, BOTI, and Drag/Import Wars (road racing and auto-x wasn't big with the tuner crowd yet). A lot of the tuner guys knew and respected each other. After the movie came out the scene exploded with guys just throwing Pep Boys parts on their mom's cars and coming out to the races or shows trying to act cool and talking shit about people's cars. Kinda reminds me of today's hellaflush movement and hard parkers lol.

I went to watch the first movie at AMC Barrington. I'm Chinese, so i eat rice for lunch and dinner, I dont need to drive it or watch it being driven in the streets so waited for the DVD to come out to watch the rest.

It sad, but I must say that this franchise defined "rice boys". At the time, APC was known as Always Producing Crap

I finally saw Fast Five this week. It is, by far, the best movie in the series. In part because The Rock pretty much steals the movie. It had less "cars" and more general action and plot. Granted the plot was lifted from quite a few other movies, but it was still fun. The implausibility factor was high, although not as high as some of the movies in the series. (The 4th movie with it's wheel stands at 100mph on dirt are king for that.) I did like that they brought back so many characters from the series. Overall a very fun movie.

The coolest car in the movie was the GT40.
