Called to check if they had drain and fill bolt washers for the rear diff. The parts guy actually told me that they don't carry them because their service department just reuses the existing crush washers whenever they do any fluid changes (even oil changes)... Interesting, I have a Honda Factory Service Manual, and it says to replace them. Just reinforced my belief that it's better to do it myself.

Luckily, the other local dealer that I called has them.

Hey Kamron - you should probably post up the name of the dealership, so that we all know not to go there.

Some places have the skill, and other don't. I'm too lazy to do a lot of the dirty work on my own, so I always take it to the dealership. But there is only ONE tech that I'll allow to touch my car, and they know that.

Some dealerships, it can come down to the actual tech working on the car. Sometimes people don't follow procedure because they think their way is better, or perhaps the dealership's policy was to not follow procedure. If that is the case, I'd report them to Honda because then Honda may be paying for warranty work when it was the tech/dealership that screwed things up in the first place.

. . . I'm rambling.

Ahh, the plot thickens!!

First off, to respond to Sam's post, the stealership that I called first was Ferndale Honda -- which is a smaller Honda dealer, that I have not previously had reason to complain about. In the past I had a good experience there with my CRX where they quickly replaced a broken heat shield clip (couple dollar part) for super cheap and did not charge me labor (when the Ann Arbor stealership wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars just to diagnose the problem -- which I insisted was the missing clip but they didn't want to listen). They also graciously allowed us to use their parking lot (albeit small) to meet for the dream cruise last year. As a result, I can't bash them that hard. Not only that, at least they were very open and honest (more honest than I would have expected) about their incompetence. I would have expected them to say "we don't see many S2000s so we don't stock the part", instead of volunteering their incompetence. Oh well.

Second, I made my original post after I called Troy Honda, but before I went there to pick up the washers. I asked on the phone twice if they were sure that they had them in stock and was given an affirmative response. Went to pick them up, and they didn't have them. The guy at the parts counter told me that the guy answering the phone was new, asked him about the call after he got off the phone with me, and then told me some line that didn't make much sense about him not even knowing that S2000s had a rear diff. I didn't ask if they reuse washers when they perform maintenance, but I probably should have.

The funny/sad thing is that I just ordered a oil filter from H and A, and I could have ordered the washers I needed along with that, but didn't realize until after my order was in the mail that I needed to do my diff in addition to changing my engine oil. Now, it didn't make much sense to pay shipping on a few cent washers. Might as well buy them from a local dealer where I don't need to pay shipping. Anyway, I'll have them Wednesday.

Yeah, the dealership back home taped the washer to the plastic wrap on the top of the filter.
