Nursing Scheduling
Okay, strangest topic of the day, I know. However, I need some insight on how RNs have their schedules set.
In a hospital setting, in general care (non-critical) can RNs request their own schedule, can they request their own schedule based on extenuating circumstances at home or are RNs at the mercy of the "master scheduler" and take what they get?
Any feedback would be VERY helpful.
Thanks!

A couple years ago, I dated a nurse. She could basically set her own schedule. There were times that she scheduled a week off! It wasn't a vacation, technically. Just a long break in her schedule. She certainly didn't seem to be at the mercy of a "master scheduler".
My sister and niece switch scheduled days in advance to get extended days-off work. They ask everyone in the staff to cover for them when they need to take a particular day off work, this is done by everyone in a regular basis. It kind of make it look like they're setting their own schedule. Having a permanent or setting one on your own can't be done from my understanding.
