Yeah, some you push the throttle, some you pull. My old jetski was a push type, which was actually pretty easy to let go of.
The fastest jet ski I ever rode was a pull type. I got going a LOT faster than I wanted to because I couldn't get myself to let go of the throttle.
I did find the throttle on the bike to be a little touchy. It didn't take much to get it to rev up a LOT.

Take the safety course FIRST to decide if you really want a bike.
THEN buy an inexpensive bike with low displacement. A 250 maybe.
Get GOOD on that, then step up to something a little bigger like a 600cc.
IF you feel you need more, step up again. Or stick with the 600.
Do NOT start with a 1,000cc bike.
