To be clear, I'm all for being allowed to record them. I'm just saying they could still initially arrest you, and even if you take them to court and win, there will still be a record of your arrest and any fees they owe won't be paid by them personally, but by the department.
If you are cleared of all charges, then your record will be fine. It will show an arrest, but employers can only ask about convictions.
Being awarded a sizable sum of money wouldn't suck (except that it WOULD take a long time.)
While the money wouldn't come from the officer himself, the likelihood is that he would be punished by the department, up to and including being fired.

Never underestimate a department's willingness to cover for one of their own. My guess is for something like this, it'd net him little more than a slap on the wrist.
