I find myself using the voice recorder on my phone when I interact with somebody I'm not fond of. It gives me a record in case it ever comes up.
While it's theoretically legal, be prepared for potentially being arrested if you do that to an officer:

I have no problem pointing out to an officer my rights as guaranteed by the Constitution and interpreted by the judicial system. Just as you do not have to say a single word to them (annoys them because it shows they are not in control of a submissive subject). You have the right to remain silent even if they do not point it out to you. They also need to state their reason for stopping you, or you are being subjected to an illegal search and detainment. They also can't ask you to "wait for....." they must issue a ticket or summons for the reason to pull you over in a reasonable time and let you on your way, or place you under arrest.

With that said, I'm always start nice and courteous. If they want to be dicks, we can go there.

To be clear, I'm all for being allowed to record them. I'm just saying they could still initially arrest you, and even if you take them to court and win, there will still be a record of your arrest and any fees they owe won't be paid by them personally, but by the department.

If you are cleared of all charges, then your record will be fine. It will show an arrest, but employers can only ask about convictions.

Being awarded a sizable sum of money wouldn't suck (except that it WOULD take a long time.)

While the money wouldn't come from the officer himself, the likelihood is that he would be punished by the department, up to and including being fired.

Never underestimate a department's willingness to cover for one of their own. My guess is for something like this, it'd net him little more than a slap on the wrist.

Someone was supposed to come over last night to buy my corvette wheels. I ended up cancelling dinner with my sister and mom to accomodate him. He then blew it off. He is supposedly coming over today.
