I said it on facebook, but I gotta say it here too, because it was such a huge
for me.
I had a FANTASTIC final day of ice climbing season today at Midwest Ice Climber's Ice Pit today! The weather was PERFECT! A little bit of sun, some more clouds to keep the sun off the walls allowing a longer climbing period (rock-fall caused by melting ice typically closes the day/season) The temperature was just about freezing with no wind. I got four and a half 100 foot WI5 (Water Ice grade 5) routes in today, and a really cool ice cave about half way up one route. (had to go in it twice, which accounts for the half route.
) The ice was just the right plasticity for great climbing. Several other members also commented that it was one of the best days this season. I can't imagine a better way to end my ice climbing season than with such a SPECTACULAR day!
Oh, and this should count as a
for the rest of you.... since ice climbing is pretty much (unofficially) over this season, I won't complain anymore about the warm weather when it comes. In fact, I'll even welcome it.
I know many of you were kinda begrudging my venting about the warm temperatures earlier.
A few sobering moments of rock fall elsewhere on old routes that were not setup for safety reasons, and a route that was partially collapsed and separated from the wall was another sobering sight.
A few pics from my last outing.
