I don't know the exact reasons why WSB pursued this action, however, I think that it'll negate the non-S2000 orientated "noise" that the 1% of owners (which aren't as active on the board anymore) have to read through. Hopefully, they become more active from it.

As for threads getting jacked, I tried to moderate more posts when people first voiced their annoyances about it (remember Lee's thread about thread jacking?). I got bit in the ass by the same people that voiced them, and they then turned to thread jacking as well....I'm one of the hypocritical guilty ones as well though.

With the separation of the "Windy City" forum dedicated for post whores and thread jackers, it could make moderation a more of a "black and white" type of enforcement.

I say give them their precious UMW back... The hell with it! This thing is getting old and tiring.

FYI, there's different reasons why people aren't posting, one is because they are being push out. This separation is just one example.

And you why people are leaving!!

I'm sure someone somewhere is happy to hear that i have had enough of this and that this is my last post here.

Congrats..... you won.

Johnny,

No one has been pushed out of the UWM forum. There's been attempt at some order for the forum, both before and now with what WSB implemented. Sorry that you feel as if you're being pushed out or away from the board.

No one has won anything. However, I'll argue that the group has lost something though. It's lost the momentum and excitement from the previous two years. It's lost a lot of "newbies" that wander in here...in the face of having the largest S2000 owner group in the UMW than we've ever had. It's lost S2000-focused events. Because the momentum is gone, it'll take a bit more work and effort to get things rolling again for next year's driving season. But that's my .02.

So what do you think we need to do to get things back to normality?

I think you missed the point.

Understand that the UMW is an S2000 community. The reason it's on s2ki is to foster S2000 events and discussion amongst 'neighbors'. In the last 2-3 months it's become a Chicago-centric drinking/post whoring fraternity. The guys who traveled to FWT from Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, and Michigan aren't posting anymore, at all. Many of the Wisconsin owners fell by the wayside. When I brought up the issue with HondaGal, her reaction was to get rid of the troublemakers - in other words, a forum ban for the post whores and thread jackers. I didn't want that because I didn't want to push away guys like Lee, Pete, Daman, et al who, while being post whorish, support the community in many ways.

Splitting off the post whoring is the lesser of two evils.

Honestly, I think waiting the winter out and getting people to miss their S2000's will get some juices flowing next Spring.

As for this year, I'm fresh out of ideas and energy to do anything about it. Typically at this time of the Summer/Fall, people are getting excited for the Fall UBAB, which had been bigger than every Spring UBAB of the same year. I'm hoping that the juices get flowing for the Brad BAB.

Next year, there'll be a whole new social cluture to develop. People will come back to a bunch of new faces, an excitement of getting behind the wheel (as long as gas prices aren't abouve $5/gal.), there'll be a call for tech sessions (oil change days, mod days, detail days, etc.). It'll be car-related events that get things back to normality.

Yeah, id like to see some tech sessions and days dedicated to working on the car as you mentioned. I might learn a thing or two. (I'm a mechanical noob and just discovered the car jack thingie)

But...

we can still have the "focused sessions" combined with "general meets" and have fun while learning. I'd hate to lose the "loose and fun" hang out atmoshpere in favor of "tech only" meets.

Take some time to think about why they might not want to post.

FYI, I'm in no way trying to discourage the 'fun' meets you guys have been doing... just trying to keep the UMW forum focused on getogethers and S2000s.

I had a huge response all typed out detailing my feelings on all of this - my screen froze - and quite frankly I cannot be bothered to go through it all again.
