I kinda fell away from the UMW forum a year or more ago due to the high noise to signal ratio. That plus the severe health issues I'm dealing with this year have made me unwilling to participate in a place where the overall tone has seemed to be more post whoring as opposed to community building. Maybe providing this "chitchat" subforum will help some.

I dunno, maybe it's my age and the general feeling I don't really "fit".

No slam at anyone, just an observation on why I haven't posted much in UMW.

Tom I understand this isnt a slam. But I've been here longer than the very recent "post whore era" and I dont really recall you contributing much then....

Regardless, hope you make a full recovery, and are back to 100% soon.

I was in here a bit back in 2003, but with the direction the forum seemed to be taking along with a bad experience at a local meet in 9/03 meant I didn't find a lot of commonality with most of the rest of the forum members. I still posted some, when I had something to say, but generally as the noise to signal level increased I pretty much backed away from even lurking early 2004.

Regardless, hope you make a full recovery, and are back to 100% soon.
Thanks!!!

Honestly, I think waiting the winter out and getting people to miss their S2000's will get some juices flowing next Spring.

As for this year, I'm fresh out of ideas and energy to do anything about it. Typically at this time of the Summer/Fall, people are getting excited for the Fall UBAB, which had been bigger than every Spring UBAB of the same year. I'm hoping that the juices get flowing for the Brad BAB.

Next year, there'll be a whole new social cluture to develop. People will come back to a bunch of new faces, an excitement of getting behind the wheel (as long as gas prices aren't abouve $5/gal.), there'll be a call for tech sessions (oil change days, mod days, detail days, etc.). It'll be car-related events that get things back to normality.
There was a camping meet last weekend, there have been weekly meets every single week since the spring.

The UBAB, the FWT, the BBAB, SpeedQuest Dyno Days, Track events, etc.

Excuse me but where do you get off saying there is a loss of enthusiasm? I think what you mean is that YOU don't like the Thursday meets.

The UMW has been more dominated by the Chicago crew as long as I can remember. The Indiana guys typically stuck to one thread, and they have mostly moved to S2kca, especially since Geoff got banned. I see posts from WI guys all the time, mabey you just aren't looking if you don't see them.

I get sick of the constant ing too. However, the community is a public forum. It is open to owners, former owners, and enthusisats. The community is whatever the community makes it. Just because the community doesn't behave or have the exact types of meets that Urmil wants doesn't negate the value of the meets.

I have now seen two people (Walt, and Jeff) suggest that the Chicago meets are just drunk fests. I thought the point was covered clearly when Walt brought it up, but in case you missed it Jeff: Since you have not been to a single Thursday meet you don't know what they are like, so with all due respect STFU.

I don't mind having this sub-forum, frankly I don't care. However, I am getting really pissed off at the implication that the people who have been participating this year are somehow "less-than." That is crap.

First, while the "community" is public, this board and forum isn't. The regional forums is provided to plan meets and enhance camaraderie among owners and enthusiasts. The whoring, in-jokes, and the like are an extension of the camaraderie amongst friends, but I felt that we were on a path to where they were dominating the real purpose for the regional forum. Ohio almost lost their forum because the 'noise' was too loud and creating too many problems. I took the initiative to cutoff the path so we didn't end up in the same boat, and hopefully not piss off too many people. It looks like I failed in that sense.

The 4+ hour drive time sorta rules out me going to most Thursday meets Pete. I'd like to go to some but it's just unrealistic. So what that leaves me is to read what gets posted, and the emphasis (from an outsider's perspective) of the Thursday meets lately has been "lets get together and drink". The camping meet seemed to emphasize "lets go camp and get rip roarin drunk". I realize there's more to it, and most of the Thursday crew are responsible and just out having fun, but when the emphasis of the planning/discussion seems to be placed on boozing it up, that casts a negative cloud over the events. Ideally everyone would feel welcome at the Thursday meets, and I'm pretty sure that's not the case right now.

I don't think I ever implied that the whores and 'social' group are inferior in any way. If I did, I apologize. It's just that the behavior can put off other members. The fact that many of them have really pushed for more meets, different meets, that's awesome and that's why the UMW forum exists. But the stuff that got moved here, including the post whoring and general silliness threads, in no way shape or form improves on that.

Again, to clarify, my role as CO is to look out for the interests of all members, not just a select few. I felt this subforum would be a win-win situation.

When's the last time we had a tech day, a drive meet, a maintenance day....in general, when's the last time we had an S2000 meet.

I'm not talking about a "social" gathering type of meet where I could bring 10 different friends that didn't know what an S2000 was and they'd still fit in. Thos meets are fine...but the enthusiasm centered around an S2000 meet has definitely died down.

Where do I get off saying this? I get off stating this from me being around for so long. Two summers ago when the late summer/early Fall meets died down (mainly because we were just hacing too many of them), people where still excited about doing things. We still had tech and maintenance days, we still had a meet on getting the cars ready for winter storage, etc.

So I will repeat that the enthusiasm about ownership and fan-fare for the S2000 is dying. I apologize for any confusion that I may caused thinking that my earlier notions about this were directed towards anything other than the S2000 related ideas.

Now as for having/hosting/organizing meet types that "...Urmil doesn't want". That's a very loaded statement and sentiment. If there are meets that I don't want or ultimately don't care for, I will simply not participate. I will organize an event or a meet for the way I'd like to see things go.

It was quite apparent that many were quite content with the different types of meets I've put together in the past.

[editted from here on out. I don't want to respond to any more of the "Urmil this" or "Urmil that" sentiment. I'm glad for the time I took in the past to organize things, help people, or just out-right do things for the sake of doing them for the S2000-community seems to be really appreciated].

Criticism accepted and dealt with in my own way. Thanks guys.

Well, there is a meet brewing to do some maintence on Tomcatt's car.

We just had a dent removal day about a month ago, and I have started getting some interest in another one.

Personally I think it's a LITTLE early to think about a meet for prepping the cars for winter storage, but whatever floats your boat.

I also spent Saturday working on my car, and helped out another owner with his car so there was a mini-tech meet of sorts on Saturday.

Mabey the community isn't as interested in those things as they have been in past year. That's just one of the changes for this year. In the past it's been like pulling teeth to get S2000 owners out to track days, but this year there have been a lot of people who have gotten involved in those events.

Mabey I am just missing your point.
