Default Visiting DFW for Father's Day weekend, anything to do or sights?

hey guys,

I'm going to be visiting with my dad over Father's Day.

He is a big car and football guy so wondering if there is any scenic places or good restaurants to try out?

I know Dallas is huge area so help me out.

Last time my dad was here was on 9/11 so it has been a while

If he likes football, make sure to take him to the new Cowboys stadium, they do tours and you can walk on the field and check out the locker rooms, etc. I did that a few years ago, and it's very impressive.

There are tons of great restaurants and places to check out, it would be helpful to know what area of the metroplex you will be staying at, and we can recommend more. Also what type of food do you like, you want to see hole in the wall type places, or more upscale? One thing I do have to recommend, is make sure you get some good Texas BBQ while you are here.

As far as car related stuff to do there's a Texas Museum of Automotive History in Fair Park that probably would be cool to check out, as well as nightly drag races at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth or the Texas Motorplex in Ennis (if thats your kind of thing).

If you can narrow down the area, that can help.

Dallas is nice and stylish, more "modern" while Ft. Worth is going to give the stereotypical Texan feel with cobblestone roads, cops on horses, etc...both have great restaurant selections! Davidnyc gave some good resources to find what best suits you...

thanks guys, I will look into those sites for sure!

Been on tripadvisor but so much information

We are not looking for upscale places (just my dad and myself). We prefer local establishments or hole in the wall type places that serve good food, good atmosphere.

Thinking if we should grab a hotel where is the best spot? Roanoke?

Roanoke is the unique dining capital of TX, and they have all kinds of good restaurants along a very walkable main street. I can personally recommend Babe's and Twisted Root Hamburgers, and have heard good things about Hard 8 BBQ (it's next on my list). Nearby is Texas Motor Speedway - they're having drag races, lapping, and a car show there tonight.

There's an open track day @ Eagles Canyon Raceway tomorrow, and always something going on @ Texas Motor Sport Ranch in Cresson.
