Default 2nd Gear TSB 05-009

This is the TSB for the transmission popping out of 1st or 2nd gear and supposedly covers all MY 2004 and about 5,700 of MY 2005 due to 2nd gear set manufacturing tolerances at their limits.

My vehicle is a candidate and has occasionally exhibited the symptom, especially in colder weather.

How risky is this TSB from the standpoint of messing up something else in the transmission and having to go back for rework? Has the TSB solved the problem?

I had this TSB performed. I had the Hardtopguy clutch kit installed at the same time. I'm not totally sure how happy I am with it yet. The clutch kit is awseome, but I have some things with the tranny I'm curious about still. I have a squeeking noise on hard red-line shifts and going into third from second (and only from second . . . downshifts from 4th are perfect) feels a little off but it may be because the second gear sycnro is so new. Not sure yet, only have a few hundred miles, if even that since the TSB.

If your going to do it, try to find a cool dealer who will let you upgrade parts while your in there.

They have a listing of VINs that are affected. I had mine done last week. Was supposed to take up to 2 days... it took them 3 1/2. The gave me a rental for the duration.

It was worth it IMO. It drove me nuts popping out.

I need help guys. I have occational 1st gear popping out. It happens during stop-and-go traffic and usually happens during cold start. I would like to get my dealer to do the warranty work needed to repair this, but so far the dealer refuses. The reason is that the service person couldn't reproduce the problem. I would drive days without seeing the problem, but the problem is still there. I even showed them the TSB 05-009 hardcopy.

What recourse do I have?

I say continue bitching and complaining.

My biggest problem wasn't popping out of gear..it was actually the shifting notchiness. It's REALLY bad on my car when the car isn't warmed up. A fluid swap at 8k miles helped, but the problem's back.

I left my car with the dealer overnight so he could test drive it first thing in the morning. After a mile, he was convinced that my car was not right and suggested that I do the TSB.

I had the TSB performed about 3000 miles ago. My car would pop out of 2nd gear on deceleration. I can replicate this at will. I even video taped it for the service technician in case he was not able to replicate it.

The first few hundred miles with the new 2nd gear set felt kinda weird. It was probably just the new gear and syncrho breaking in. 3000 miles later...its like butter. The TSB definitely fixed the problem.

My friend is going through the same problem now and he's having a bit of a hard time getting the dealer to replicate the problem.
