Default Header - Thermal Wrap

As I await for my header to come in and I was talking to a friend mine who suggested it might be a good idea to wrap the exhaust in thermal wrap to keep under the hood tempatures down. Does anyone have their header wrapped ?...is it worth it, pics, install etc.....

Thanks

it's a bad idea, the places where it overlaps build up hot spots it can collect moisture and it generally fatigues the metal much faster. I suggest you go to a hardware store and pick up some rustoleum bbq flat black, clean the surface with alcohol and do as many coats as you can.

I think thermal wrap works the best but it probably isn't good for the average aftermarket header, the metal is too thin and the header might warp and the welds could crack. Stock header or cast might fare better

I seen the swaintech on alcohol powered dragsters and I wish I got that instead. I noticed they might turn green when they get hot.

I have my bike headers coated with jethot sterling. It reduced temps for sure but somehow I feel there's better stuff out there.

I've ran the DEI thermal wrap on both my PLM header and JIC stainless steel exhaust for over 2 years without any issue. I've re-wrapped both recently and inspected the welds and so far there are no cracks. But i have heard people that have damaged header due to thermal wrap. I took the risk and so far nothing yet.

With the header wrap you will notice a significant temperature drop in your engine bay in comparison with stock header and heat shield.

If you're gonna do thermal wrap use DEI, even better use DEI titanium wrap. I doubt it would collect any/the same moisture as the cloth'ish variety.
