225/50/16 Alternative
Hello there,
Having just purchased a 04 in RNB, I've got some spare 16" that I fancy putting some winter tyres on to save the four new 050's that it currently has on, and to save killing myself over winter.
Since Blackcircles have 25% off winter Hankook I'm interested in purchasing them, sadly the 225/50 aren't avaliable, neither are 245's.
What size would still be recommended before opting for some Kumho's instead? 215/55?
http://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/br...icept-evo-w310
Many thanks.

I wouldn't put 215s on the back of an 04 too big of a step from the standard 245, they might be alright in snow cos thinner tyres are better but you'll be driving them on the dry aswell

Hi Chilled,
I'm about to get my winter tyres, found that Kumho do the IZEN KW27 in the standard rear size of 225/50/16. Goodyear Ultragrip 8's are also available in that size but would cost another £120 in total.
UncleFester (not my real uncle, sadly) has used Kumho's to good effect though last winter, so they look like the fave at the moment

I have 205/55/16 all round,
Works brilliant in the snow, Work well in the rain, You can tell you have less tread down though,
After using them to such great affect last year I am happy with them though

I've a few days before I have to buy a set of four, and still not much the wiser. Would a 225/55 be too much of a change from 225/50 in real usage, as from the calculators it comes back as a 3.65% and 23mm difference?
If I go for the Kumho KW27 I'll mirror UncleFester's sizes 225/50 and 205/55, but was trying to make use of the 25% off the Hankooks.

isn't a 215/55/16 a closer to the 225/50/16 as standard...
I am sure 215/55 rear and 205/55 front will be just fine. You may notice the difference, but these are not a summer tyre and overall grip in 'ideal' conditions will never match a decent summer tyre on dry warm roads.
I had the civic fitted with these all round on saturday. At 2 deg C this morning, the should have performed better than the Bridgestones we took off, although my wife could not tell the difference (which has to be a good thing I guess).
I got the 25% off, so a great price on the 205/55/16. Bargain.
