No point in having the best brake pads on earth if your tires are crap.
This is possibly the worst advice I have read in this forum. Original Honda brake pads are so ****ing far from sufficient that it isn't even funny. You have no idea this guy's skill level. You don't know if he is comfortable with ABS and threshold braking. Brakes are THE most important thing to guarantee you will have a fun and safe first track weekend. Period dot dot.

I have a friend in HK who has a white TRD GT86 on Hankook TD and I helped him out with his brake setup so I'm not sure if you guys know each other (HK is a small place but a lot of people!).

Centric discs may possibly be only distributed in the North American markets. If you have access to Brembo blank rotor replacements, those are actually very good and hopefully not too expensive with the HK tariff. Otherwise, the DBA rotors are just fine. Your shop is a dealer for DBA so it is understandable they recommend that. Overall, the setup sounds satisfactory, but may provide a little too much initial bite with the slotted setup. The recommendation for you is to go with a blank rotor if possible. The limiting factor will be your 215 front tire. Despite having a A050, you may still overuse that front tire. Just monitor your usage and your braking will be very consistent.

I plan to do my annual visit to HK in June. Maybe we can meetup some day!
thanks man! Great advice indeed. Do you have experience with Dixcels on the track? Also...do you think 215 is a limiting factor? I would love to go 225 or even 255 squared but my rims are 7.5f and 8.5r only. So I'm limited a bit there...what would you recommend running?

If you haven't quite tracked too often, it's not bad to learn how to drive on staggered wheels/tires 215/245. Once you have a solid idea of what you want, going 225/255 is basically adding grip to a 215/245 setup but has very similar balance and with more heat capacity.

I did not have a good experience with Dixcel brake pads. I used the RA/R01 combo and due to its nature, I found the balance to be off for my preference. I'm thinking the Specom-a might actually be a bit better for me or some of the other race pads (R15C, R23C, etc.), but the price point is too high for experimentation. At that point, I have the option of 999 and some other special pads that aren't necessarily available to the standard consumer. Also, knowing friction specialists/brake engineers personally helps so it is easier to make a decision on what pad to run. Personally, I believe the 999 is very good for your application and setup.

I also have a set of new Dixcel FS discs that I actually want to use for this track day but my shop is telling me that Racing 999 pads are too abrasive for the Dixcel core material and they won't last. I'm wondering what you guys think of this? My shop is pretty experienced for prepping track cars but I also would like a 2nd opinion from you guys.

FYI, I will be running A050's on the track.
i use 999 on stock discs or centrics. They bite as hard from start to finish, just watch out for fluid boiling because the stock brakes will heat up too much. I've got thru a few brands and 999 are the best.

I run DBA T3 Slotted with Ferodo DS2500s. I used to use the OEM rotor with the DS2500 as well. The only real difference i feel is a slightly improved bite but im sure that just because of the slots.
If i had the opportunity i would of gone with a blank rotor for a cost saving. The main reason i went with the DBA T3S was availability.
Centrics are only available in the US and would of had to pay and wait for shipping.

The DBAs do handle heat a bit better. I used to make my OEMs turn blue with extremely visible heat spots where as my DBAs are only a light hue of blue and some heat spots.

If you only have one set of rims and drive your car on the street then avoid the A050s. They would be very unsafe in the wet. Stick with a 200TW tyre. Even 200TW can be a little sketchy in the wet.
