S2000 Talk has a thread calling for picture submissions for the 2011 calendar. S2KI has had calendars for the last two years and 2011 will be the third year in succession. Saki GT, one of our forum moderators is heading up this project and the calendars are expected to be on sale sometime during November 2010. Continue reading →
A discussion with that title has been going on now for a few days in the Vintage S2000 Owners group. This thread was inspired by an article on something called the slow-car movement. For your benefit let me attempt to define what a slow car is – A car that has abysmal horsepower by current standards, yet delivers fun & excitement by dint of its limited tire grip, and exceptional suspension, gearbox and steering. A car that demands a skilled driver and that thrills said skilled driver from the get go. A car that is as much fun at 17 MPH as it is at 70 MPH and is compltely devoid of electronic nannies or driver assists and creature comforts like air conditioning. Continue reading →
This seems to be the question, and a good one at that being asked by our member King. He has started a poll on the S2000 talk forum designed to track age demographic data for all people that currently own and drive an S2000. In his own words it is “Just a poll to see how our owners stack up in 2010?” Continue reading →
OK, I know that caught your eye, possibly even startled you or caused you to spit your coffee all over your keyboard. NO, Honda is not launching the S2000 in 2010.
But, I want you to imagine this scenario – what if Honda launched the S2000 this year? I’m not talking about the CR or the ahem! clearly superior AP2, nor am I speaking of some kind of AP3. I have in mind the simple, uncluttered, pure-hearted AP1 roadster with its 9,000 rpm rev limit, plastic rear window, 16″ wheels, single floor-mat peg etc. How would it be received by the press and the driving public and how would Honda market it? I set off on Sunday from Derby to catch the Eurotunnel around lunchtime, and got to the circuit for registry before 7:00 PM. Once I got into France, the sun came out, so it was top down, music up and sunglasses on. Excellent start. As I entered Belgium the car had that lovely silky feeling that you get when everything is hot and running smoothly. Cruising at around 130kph, I saw a tunnel approaching. It was more of a bridge with the underneath filled in, so dropped a couple of gears and nailed the car through the tunnel, fantastic noise, followed by a sudden flash! There was a bloody car pulled up on the grass bank on the other side of the tunnel. Entrapment! We’ll see if anything comes of it. Continue reading →
The corkscrew, Toe of the boot, and the Tail of the Dragon are what we’d bring up in conversation when discussing driving experiences here in the US of A. Our cousins across the pond though, have access to something we’d give our right arm, leg and eye for – the Nordschleife (northern loop) at the Nurburgring or the Green Hell as it is also called. Our member Joesnow of the UK S2000 Community, got to drive the Nordschliefe recently and has shared this video of his fastest lap. He went around the ring in around 10 minutes. Per Wikipedia, the lap record for the production S2000 is 8:39 in the hands of a professional. By that standard I think it is fair to conclude that Joesnow’s achievement is worth applauding. So without further ado, click below to watch Joesnow cavort around the Karussell.
Before you watch the video though, crank up the volume and pay close attention to Joesnow’s smooth steering wheel inputs, down-shifting and braking before the corner and gradually stepping on the gas upon going past the apex.
“Into each life some rain must fall” said a poet once, and may I add that when it rains, it indeed pours. At times, things get to such a point where even a pair of clean boxers is not enough to wipe down a cars rained upon interior. The image above is from a thread on the UK S2000 Community. This post is not about that thread, but inspired by the irony of life that was summed up to me in that image. So with a tip of my hat to our member Wobbly and my wish that his precious Monte Carlo Blue S2000 never ever sees rain again, I shall go forth and lament. Continue reading →
Many of us treat our S2000s like garage queens, yet some of us like to drive them as if we stole them, piling on several miles and smiles. Ever wonder what the lifespan of an S2000 engine might be? While We don’t have official figures for the highest mileage ever achieved on an S2000, a small photoshoot may have exposed not only the beauty of I<3myap1’s S2000, but also the remarkable figure of about 260,000 miles on the clock (Editor: per member claim. Click here). As of this report the car is still going strong! Continue reading →
I soon decided to research the ASM Siren Circuit exhaust but had a hard time finding useful information for it. Pictures of the exhaust are almost non-existent other than the ones on display at ASM or their customers cars, all of which were shot at the same angle.
My first modification was a simple gear knob. I was seventeen at that time, and didn’t exactly have a high paying job. My initiation into the wonderful and expensive world of modification began with a Greddy gear knob for my EM1 Civic.
As the years passed, I moved on from car to car and each of them had progressively greater modifications. By the time I had my Evo, I was irredeemable changing the wheels, exhaust, suspension, sway bars, intake, injectors and stereo among other things. As for carbon fiber, let me just sat that the evil dark weave had me hooked from the first time I picked up a piece.
