Thumbs up Qs Regarding Running AP2 Engine with AP1 ECU

Hi everybody,

I have an 2002 ap1 and I recently blowed the engine on the track.
Hence, I swap to an 05 ap2 engine but I am still running my 02 ecu.
I have read some of the posts dated back in 06 on this topic but that did not satisfy my curiosity.
If there is anyone who can answer me the following questions, your help is greatly appreciated =) thx!

1. What would be a safe shifting rpm for this setup since the ap1 ecu increases the redline to 9000rpm considering I mainly drive this car on the track? Most of the guys told me 8500rpm should be fine but I have noticed some sound/ vibration changes when I exceed 8000rpm.

2. What is the difference between an 00~01 ecu and 02~03 ecu? People say ap2 engine + 00~01 ecu can generate 10+hp gain, how about 02~03 ecu on an ap2 engine?

3. Is there any difference on vtec opening rpm between an ap2 ecu and an ap2 ecu? Doesn't ap1 ecu open vtec at 6000rpm but ap2 ecu open vtec at 5500rpm? If so should I get a vtec controller to elminate this tiny vtec delay?

4. I just really want to know why running ap1 ecu on ap2 engine can generate more power than stock ap2 ecu?

Best,

Alex

im running an 01 ecu on an 05 motor...
I dont rev past 8600...
Vtec controller would be nice cause the 6k engagement is kinda late, it doens't fall out of vtec when i shift though, so its still good.
I got a running lean code once, it was just cruisin down the road when it happened, not flashing or anything, hasn't came on since... could of been bad fuel..

im saving for a j's ap2 ecu, cause i dont feel like paying the dealer to reprogram my keys..

And i believe the ap2 ecu has a better curve on it then running an ap1 ecu on an ap2 motor

Ive never heard of anyone else runing an 02'03' ECU on an F22... I have heard of 00' and 01' ECUs on f22 and people say that is safe reving 9k, but I dont think there has been any long term tests on this . I know the 02'03' runs leaner then the earlier 00'&01's so that would be my main concern, running too lean. If it were me I would try to get ahold of an earlier ECU...
good luck!
