Default Need help with jacking car up..

So I recently bought 4 jack stands and a new heavy duty jack. It's your typical red jack with holding 3.5 tons of weight. The issue I am having is that it doesn't jack the car up high enough for the jack stands to even go in. After a while the jack handle doesn't do anything and the car doesn't raise anymore. I was wondering if any of you encountered this? Also, I think I may have made a huge mistake by taking our the release valve and letting oil squirt out. I am thinking that might be the issue and not having enough oil in there for hydraulic pressure might be causing it not to raise any higher.

Sorry if this is in the wrong post but I've been trying to change my diff. and tranny fluid for a while now and just when I thought I had all the equipment..epic fail!!

BTW, I got the jack from Advanced Auto Parts...

Pls chime in to this first timer attempting to do a little DIY maintenance..

Probably the wrong jack... See on the box how high it can go... You probably want one that can jack up to around 20 inches, and you may have gotten a short 14" jack or something.

Thanks spets! I have the box at home and will check the max. height. I was really ready to do the maintenance today but looks like I won't be getting around to it until later...

There shouldnt be anything open allowing oil to squirt out, that will kill the lifting ability of the jack. Take it back and exchange it.
