Misfire P1399 code fix
Hey,
Long time lurker first time poster......I want to share my misfire fix.
Background: My car is a stock 2004 S2000 with 81k miles. I am the second owner and have owned this car since it had 29k miles. Oil/filter changed every 3-5k miles with Mobile full synthetic. All other maintenance is up to date.
4 months ago a check engine light came on. checked the codes and the dreaded P1399 and P0301 (general misfire and cylinder 1 misfire). The car ran and started fine but it felt like it would run a little sloppy, especially when getting into vtech. So the search for the cause started.
First, I seafomed the car without results. I reset the check engine light and everything was fine for a week or so until the engine light came back on.
Second, I checked all the coils and spark plugs (moved them all around). I reset the light an another week went by until the light came back on.
Third, I adjusted the valves. All were a bit loose but nothing extreme. Once again, the light was reset and came back on after a week or two.
Fourth try, i checked compression. All cylinders were 240 to 238, great! I didn't do a leak-down test due to the passing compression test. Engine light still coming back on.
Finally, i took out the injectors and had them tested and cleaned. Bingo, all but one passed. The injector for cylinder 1 was only flowing at 240 (the other three were flowing at 388) after being cleaned several times. The bad injector fires normal and passed every test but the flow was still off. Its almost like its the wrong size injector.
Anyway, I know that stock injector failures are rare on Hondas so I thought that I would share my experience with you all; maybe this will help someone else with their misfire issues.
Cheers,
Matt

Yeah code P1399 maybe the one of the hardest ones to track down, you just don't get enough information to chase that one with any certainty. Good find on the injectors, thanks for sharing the info. Faulting injectors aren't common on Hondas but they seem to cause some issues on this car for some reason, we've seen quite a few misfire threads caused by injectors.

Thanks for sharing. I hope I NEVER get that code on my baby, but knowing someone else has gone thru it prior to me and has my back will certainly be comforting while I stress out trying to fix the issue...but as I say... hopefully I will never need to go there.
Best of luck with yours.
