S2000s in the News: IndyCar Parade Laps, Fall 2011 BMT and More!

Select Honda S2000 owners from Southern California, the Bay Area, Arizona, and Nevada will be participating in the parade laps for the IZOD IndyCar World Championships race in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 16. As part of the festivities, thirty-five S2000 owners from the group will get to chaperone an IndyCar driver around the course prior to the start of the race. Coverage of the race will be on the ABC network. Please check your local listings so you can cheer on our fellow members as they go slow and turn left at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, October 16. We are glad that American Honda and IndyCar are involving more of our regions in these parade laps and happier still that the response from the community has been phenomenal. Expect to hear a report on the home page from our very own ScandinavianFlick as well as Back-Cracker, the event coordinator.

Time to hit the infamous Pig Trail again! Planning for the semiannual Boston Mountains Tour has begun in earnest. The date for this signature event is set for November 5, 2011 and members from the Ark-La-Tex S2000 Community and their cohorts from Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Louisiana are leaving no stone unturned for yet another successful tour. Entry is restricted to fifty cars and we urge you to register immediately for what is another feature event for S2000 Owners in North America. Stay tuned to the home page for updates on the tour from the event organizers and our very own JulieU.

Car and Driver’s November 2011 issue has an interesting sidebar comparison. Listing the Power Retractable Hard Top Miata as a best new buy for $30,000, the magazine says, for the money, one could not go wrong with purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned Honda S2000. Listing the attributes of the S2000, the magazine goes on to describe the shift mechanism as ranking “among mankind’s very best achievements.” Head over to Car Talk to read the full text of the article and discuss whether or not you agree with Car and Driver’s assessment.

Robert Downey Jr. A.K.A. Tony Stark has been all the buzz of late amongst the car blogs. The reason being that he was spied on the Avengers movie set with a very attractive co-star of the metallic kind. Not Optimus Prime mind you, but a one-off Acura convertible. Surely you all are aware of Acura’s tie-in with the Avengers movie series. Honda has gone on record stating that this vehicle is a prototype and that there are no plans to bring that dream to fruition. Yet speculation is rife on the internet that this car is the precursor to a second coming of the NSX and will likely be powered by a 3.5 liter six cylinder engine with hybrid technology to boot. Rumor or not, all this speculation should at the very least convey to Honda how much its fans are waiting for it to deliver another halo car. Whether that will be the NSX or a car that will make us forget the NSX remains to be seen. Head over to Car Talk and join in the discussion on the Ironman-mobile.

Mid-South S2000 Owners (MSS2KO) is a new sub-forum that has been started to help owners in Southwest Tennessee, the City of Memphis, Northern Mississippi and West Memphis get together, organize and build their community. The community is headed by learnerspermit, the Community Organizer, and is off to a great start. If you live in the area, be sure to sign up and participate in all the events this exciting new community has planned in the coming days. Beale Street in Memphis is long overdue for the VTEC rumble of the S2000s and we wish this new community all the best for the future.
