Need Advice on A/C diffuculty
It all started before Thanksgiving, I was cruising home from work one day, when I noticed the A/C wasn't cooling.
Took it into the local Honda dealership and they diagnosed a blown compressor. They hooked me up with a loaner car, ordered the parts needed, and in about one and a half weeks had me fixed up. For about three days. Then again no A/C!?!?!
Returned to the dealer, they kept the car again for about a week while I was out of town. Called them on the way back into town and they had just ordered parts, overnight. I came into the dealer the next day and the mechanic told me that he would like me to leave it a few days longer with him as he was "still getting some restrictions in the lines", he felt that parts of the old blown compressor had clogged the evaporator and he needed a little longer to clear them out. They gave me a loaner again and I got my car back in a couple of days. The A/C seemed to run great, but because that cold front had reached us, I really didn't run it much until this week. The first of this week through today it operated without problem. Today, as I drove back from Woodville, MS it went out again.
Somebody give me some advice. What do I tell them to do? I have a lot going on in the next couple of weeks and taking it to an out of town dealer will be very difficult. Anyone have any serious advice?

wow....
do you hear the compressor cycling at all? are there any signs of a leak?
perhaps have them flush the system w/ refrigerant oil to get any junk out?
sigh -- no, i guess i don't have any really good serious advice.

don't have anything to add, expect check and change the hepa filter for preventive maintenance.
I would also check for leaks/cycling. any signs of fluid buildup? On a previous car the drain pan would get clogged and overflow. once it shut down the A/C.

I had A/C problems with my old mustang. The first thing to do is determine whether or not the compressor is coming on. Does it blow at all? Do you just not feel cold air?
Locate your compressor under your hood. Start your car and crank up the A/C. If the compressor never comes on then you either have a bad compressor or an electrical issue. The electrical issue could be power to the compressor, fuse, or the switch on your A/C control unit inside the car.
If the compressor cuts on and blows just air then you may have a leak or blockage. The leak is hard to find/fix. I had a leak in my old mustang and even using a freaon sniffer I couldn't find it. I had to go and get the A/C charged once a year.
You know... I would take it to an A/C specialist and have them try and see what it is all about. I am not sure the dealership can solve this one. The A/C place might have the sniffer to test for a leak and a guy who could pressurize the lines and test for blockages. Could be money well spent.

If it's still under warranty then I wouldn't mess with anyone but the dealer. An outside specialist might be able to fix it, but you have to consider what is more worthwhile: your time running the car in an out, or paying out of pocket to possibly have it done correctly?
Thanks for the reponses. Decided to return to the Dealer...as brash pointed out...no out of pocket expense. They seemed genuinely unhappy that they did not have me fixed up. And again they gave me a loaner. I ask if they had a "freon sniffer",(doesn't that sound like a fictionous machine, sort of like a "paper stretcher"
) and they said yes and that they had already tried it. I talked to the mechanic, and he said is going to pull the whole thing apart tommorrow and start all the way over. He felt that there was a blockage that he missed. Lets hope that this is the last time.

i know w/ my Hondacare warranty, if they're planning to keep the car overnight, they can provide a loaner or rental at their discretion...
is that the case here?
also, i know TEAM will provide a loaner if you make enough noise when they aren't getting it right...
