I would post this in my thread about wheels but feel like it would be more or less useless rambling so it fits better in here. So if youve read that thread you know im lookin for wheels, but I have like 7 months to find em so no rush. I spent a shit ton of time today going thru threads on wheels, looked at all 84 pages of Berlina cars and here are my realizations:

- I am kicking myself for not jumping on those polished AP2V1s faster
- I think I actually do prefer the AP2V2s over the V1s (But I still like those polished ones more)
- Volk RE30s are really nice and I wish I could find them for 1500 with tires....
- I'm surprised there aren't more Berlinas with white wheels
- People spend way more than I could bring myself to spend on wheels
- I have spent way way way too much time on here recently, luckly I am getting put back to work tomorrow haha

And in conclusion if ya know anyone locally selling wheels in the next 7 months hit me up!

mr flannery77 11-18-2010 02:57 AM

Volk RE30s! The best choice so far IMO! :)

IF your wanting AP2v1 rims in white. You might be in luck. Guy local here in Shreveport has some that he may be selling soon when he buys new rims. He wants something with a more agressive stance. The rims look uber good and I agree would look awesome on a black car. Ill see if I can find a picture here sir.

mr flannery77 11-18-2010 05:41 AM

Do you speak of Josh's? If so, they do look saweeet!

icemans2k02 11-18-2010 05:46 AM

Yessirre!! How goes it Mason!?

mr flannery77 11-18-2010 07:13 AM

Pretty well my friend; and for you?

ohionab 11-18-2010 07:46 AM

I have been sort of thinking of the OZ Alleggerita wheels that are on tirerack. I also considered some Work CR kai wheels. Only issue would be the OZ wheels are about $1200 total for new, and the work wheels would be $1400 total for new.... so with tires you would be looking at more around $2000.

def something that could be a costly investment. I would look at it as long term as well though as it is an exterior mod that sticks out unlike most!

ohionab 11-18-2010 08:20 AM

yeah, and the way i am justifing it is to say that now i would have the OEM wheels as backups, so if I move back up north I can put all seasons or winter tires onto the OEM wheels and summers onto the new wheels.

I have heard good things about both the OZ and Work. The OZs are lighter (~15 lbs), but I think I visually like the design of the Work wheels a little better.... not sure, not gonna buy anything till I get some college money back anyway.

icemans2k02 11-18-2010 08:38 AM

I understand that sir. I think the work wheels look better as well.

SLracer 11-18-2010 11:30 AM

Oh really that could be interesting, def let me know if you find a pic of those white AP2V1s and if they go for sale. Esp a picture of them on a Berlina, or if anyones bored and wants to photoshop white AP2V1s on a Berlina that would be cool too!

Ya know I realize wheels are a long term investment and all but I still cannot bring myself to spend that much money on em. I mean those RE30s are beautiful but they are just way too much money. I'm not the kinda guy that likes something cause it was a lot of money, I am gonna look for something that is the look I want and as cheap as possible. Speaking of which I also just noticed the Kazera KZ-Js that are on tirerack. They seem like a pretty nice wheel, I like the styling and the offsets are very S2000 friendly. Its an 18 and weighs in like an 18 but I'm not gonna be out racing competatively just spirited runs on the Autobahn and Nurburgring :-)

Also while I am talking about random shit I have seen all the Hellafunctional stuff going around and knew it was in reference to something else but didn't realize what...until I stumbled upon the hellaflush movement last night. I'm sorry but some of those cars made me want to punt a small child. Call it style or art I respect the fact to each their own and I am not going to tell someone they are wrong for it. But come on when that art makes the car unable to do what it was built to do....move. Thats just a little silly. Alright rant done

Munnerlyn 11-18-2010 03:20 PM

lol... You can still move, you just have to know the road conditions you'll be driving on ahead of time. There is a lot more that goes into aggressive fitment than you think... Suspension characteristics have to be dialed in, proper offsets and dimensions of wheels have to be selected, and tire size has to be perfect. A lot of the setups you see on Hellaflush, Stance Nation, and Stance Works are daily driven...

Here's a picture of Josh's wheels he may be selling in the near future. Powder coating has been recently done and they're mint!

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4119323_n.jpg

SLracer 11-18-2010 04:19 PM

Awesome, thanks man! If he ends up selling them I might be very interested so let me know! Oh yea I realize there is a lot of work that has to be put into making everything fit that way, like I said to each their own.

**Warning I am an engineer by degree and I spent my senior project designing and building the suspension on a small formula car with a CBR600 engine in it (Forumla SAE) and then raced it at an international competition.**

But personally my thoughts are we have this nicely done machine that has had tons of R&D done to make it the way it is, great handling while being very streetable. So taking that and throwing wheels that don't fit (from a purely objective point of view) and putting tires on those that don't fit (once again objectively) and then dropping the suspension so that your geometry is all sorta outta whack just doesn't seem right to me. I understand its a lot of work to get all that fitment right and whatnot and sure they can be driven. But the level they will perform at is not even a fraction of what could be done otherwise.

I'm not looking to offend any guys that are into doing this stuff, just explaining why personally I disagree with it. The one thing that I would be curious in figuring out is how far underground the roll center is on some of those cars! Basically I'm just saying that stuff is an engineers worst nightmare

Munnerlyn 11-19-2010 05:18 AM

Very intelligent reply!

I agree with you that any "hellaflush" setup (on ground, over-aggressive suspension setup) inhibits handling and makes track use impossible. The stance movement is more about art and aesthetics. Fitment is obviously key! I, like you, would prefer something on my personal car that doesn't take away from what the car was designed for, but Stance is something that you either like or you don't. I've seen a guy that was recently featured in Import Tuner raise the mounts on his coilovers to improve the ergonomics... Excuse the terminology, I'm an Accountant not an Engineer.... :D

ohionab 11-19-2010 11:31 AM

yeah, though its not just the stance movement. Their are many movements that take away to the long and hard work in the design of the product (i too am in product engineering). You have the people that take the old 80s large vehicles (like a monte carlo) and shove the largest wheels possible on them.... makes it so if you go over train tracks too fast you will bend the crap out of the wheel. Then you also have the people that take trucks, drop them down, and again put large wheels onto them. Makes it so the truck is sort of useless for doing... you know... truck things lol.

I see it all as a type of fashion. Chances are people with these types of mods will look back 10 years from now and go "OH WOW.... why did i ever think that was a good idea??" I am sure Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer look back at their old fashions and just shake their heads in shame haha. This is also why I cant bring myself to get a tattoo lol.
