Default Cheap LCD TVs.

After getting a new bed, I have no room for my 60kg CRT TV to be positioned on the end of the bed. So I was thinking of getting a modest LCD TV to be wall mounted instead. I checked the papers and some places are doing 32" LCD TVs for around $800 but with no digital tuner. I don't think I need one this size but the next size down I could find was a 20" but that's a bit small methinks.

Can anyone hook a brother up? (Looking at you Vuey)

Also, if I were to install it on the wall, which means some drilling involved, how do I know if I'm not drilling into some electrical wires? Sorry I'm not really a handyman.

You can't just drill into the wall and hang it you'll need to pick up a stud otherwise you'll pull the gyprock out leaving you with a nice hole in the wall that you can mount a CRT telly and recess it so it looks flush.

I don't know much about digital tuners but could you just wire the lounge room's tuner through to your b/r?

I work for scotch!

Seriously, it ain't that hard. Buy a cheap stud finder to locate an upright and mount to that.

Flush mounting is great so long as you don't need to angle the Telly and only if you own the property. Takes very little spakfila to fill a couple of holes.

And there is no point running leads from your lounge room set top box. SD boxes are about $70 these days and at least you'll be able to control it and watch a different channel to the lounge. But for cleanliness g for one with a tuner built in.

And yeah, DB is your source for this stuff. JB Hifi do a great range particularly in set top boxes.

Pick up a stud? Locate an upright? Fnarr fnarr.
Seriously though, you guys have lost me. I've banged a nail in the wall to put up a mirror but that's about it.

Before DB chimes in, what do you guys think of a Conia 26" LCD with built-in digital tuner for around $400 on ebay? It's really only for the missus when I have to kick her upstairs when she wants to watch Brothers & Sisters and similar crap, so doesn't have to be top notch picture quality.

go down to your local hardware store for some parts . They can point out suitable brackets / wall mount thingys to suit your needs . Or even try Ikea .

If the one on ebay has warranty might be worth a look . If you were in Sydney would be able to hook you up . Mate is store manager at a Havey Norman store . Alternatively , i got a mate who owns an electronics store operating out of his garage at home

Harvey Norman are a good hook up if you have $$$ but you still have to take a fair hit there IMO.

Blackie, hanging a mirror is simple because it doesn't weigh as much as a tv. When they build a house there's a timber/steel frame and then they sheet the walls with gyprock which is attached to the frame. As Aus said you can get a stud finder pretty cheap and you need to screw into that so otherwise it wont hold.

Aus, this is what I meant by mounting the tube telly in the hole

Thanks guys. Will look a for a "stud finder" and mount it properly.
That's not a bad idea for a cheap flushed look Austblue. Shame that it will actually go into the shower in the next room.
