OMG What a phone! after I saw it today I'm slowly inclined to buy. (This is coming from an anti Iphone user) ahhhhh Trying to resist but.... the impulse buyer in me is screaming "BUY IT!" hmmm come to think of it wouldn't an iphone mounted in an S be more proportional? =) just while I'm here guys I have an Ipod connector to my stereo in the S; is the connection to an Iphone the same?? just wondering coz I never used one, let alone even touch it.

Thanks Guys.
your missing out !
a work mate of mine wanted to be different and got himself a Nokia N97 i think, after 2 months, he sold it and got any iphone ! he reckons the N97 is good, but no where near as good as the iphone .

I was having a play with the samsung omnia, (iphone competitor) man that phone is crap ! i use to love samsung phones .

Hmm, well you could have found out that date from the post above.

My contract is up on July 11 so that works out fine for me.

Been playing with an iPad (borrowed from work) for a few days now and probably won't get one for personal use. It feels very much like a large ipod touch and fills a very small niche. In between an iphone, macbook and imac I doubt I'm going to find much use for it. Good for a coffee table toy though.

the iPhone 4 on the other hand... want. one. now.

I think, I'll be upgrading my 3GS to the four. Purely an aesthetic thing for me.

A colleague has a HTC Desire running Android and it certainly works well.

my mate has already jailbroken his ipad ....

does anyone know if you jailbreak your iphone and its locked to a particular network, does it cause any issues?
Vuey.. what firmware are you on?

If ur on the latest V3.1.3 and modem firmware of 05.12.01 you can jailbreak but it will still be locked to your carrier, currently no unlock.

Also becareful which jailbreak option you choose... some will reset when you reboot ur iphone on V3.1.3

If ur on V3.1.2 or below.. jailbreak and unlocked no probs.

As for Tethering.. just download PDAnet from Cydia and the Windows client off the web after you have jailbroken ur iphone.. bypasses iPhone tethering

I have a similar setup (except it is two mac minis instead of an Imac) but I have the iPad pegged for:

- GPS navigation in the car . Provided I can find a mounting bracket. I just hate the tiny screen of the iPhone for GPS navigation.
- Streaming video from my myth server. I currently am outvoted (4 to 1) on the use of the TV so I watch on whichever computer is free. Hate taking the laptop to the room. The iPad seems like a good option for that.
- Reading DIY info whilst working on the house projects. Don't have a printer (that is the extent of my contribution towards a green planet.. ) so having the info handy when crawling under the car or building that retaining wall sounds appealing (ofcourse there is the risks of dropping the darn thing into a cement mixer by accident... :-) )
- Updating support tickets onsite. Can do this on the laptop but I sometimes visit upto 6 clients in a day. It is a drag pulling out the laptop and finding a stable enough spot for it when all I want to do is mark a ticket as solved, type a short summary and log the hours.
- Onsite quotes. Can also do this on the laptop but it is the same issue of finding a spot for the laptop.
- Reading books/ training manuals. I will be handy to have those 600 page reference books in a format that does not deform your spine from carrying them. Ok some of that stuff you could do a quick google search but it is not the same. I rather look up the index on a book than spend 20 minutes sifting through web posts from who knows when.

Ok. I think I have justified to myself enough... off to the shops I go!

My orginal firmware was 3.0.1, no issues. When you jailbreak you dont have to unlock ur network, thats an extra step. Why wouldnt u want to be able to use another sim if your overseas.

I had some issue with V3.0.1... phone use to heat up and suck alot of battery.. much better after upgrade.

I moved to 3.1.3 not by choice... coz the crappo iphone locked up with only the apple logo. Plugged into iTunes to restore and auto recieved V3.1.3

Jailbreak = free apps/ customizable
