Default Peer to peer filesharing

I'm keen to get me some filesharing action. Purely for the downloading of copyright-free stuff, for sure.

I'm afraid that I'm going to load my computer with viruses or spyware or adware or...etc etc etc.

Any recommendations on a good program to use? Other thoughts?

cheers

First, get a Mac. No worries about virii or spyware.

Then, check out Torrents and torrent listing sites.

This is what I use, but others may have differing tastes. I am by no means an expert at this, nor am I saying that this is what I do, but I know people that know people....

Client(windows) = Azureus (memory hog, but very powerful, lots to offer, easy automatic downloads via RSS feeds<-more on this later)

site link

Site's = many

tv shows = www.mininova.org <- for example

etc etc

****************************************
RSS feeds:

Think TV on demand...

There are a few RSS feeds that tell you what shows are available (if you're into tv and believe that "hey, it's free normally anyway" etc...).

One of these feeds can be found here:
http://tvrss.net/feed/legacy/eztv/

You can set Azureus up to automatically look for key words/phrases, and if found, begin downloading the torrent.

I won't go into how to do that though. When you're ready, I'm sure you'll google it and find out more than you need to know.

**************************************
Things to look out for:

-naming conventions
(I'll use tv shows again as an example)

You may see a name that looks like this
Heroes S02E09 HDTV XviD-LOL
Heroes = name of the show
S02 = series 2
E09 = episode 9
HDTV = High Def TV rip
XviD = codec used
LOL = scene group (a group of people that rip these things down for the rest of us)

Then sometimes you'll have:
proper (repack) and real proper
at the end of the name.

Basically, real proper is better than proper, etc etc...

And that's the basics of the whole torrent thing (for tv).

mmmm... TV.... never thought about it. But now the digital reception is a bit dodgy at the new place. It was non existent before I changed the antenna and now it is just dodgy.... maybe the interweb will come to the rescue...
