Default AP1 map sensor replacement

My car has been running very rich for some time now, with the occasional bog down / hesitation when moving off from a stop - especially in warm weather. After a set of brand new spark plugs , upper engine clean-up, map whack and mechanic diagnosis I believe that the MAP sensor may need replacing.

I’ve rung Honda asking about the MAP sensor replacement – however they do not sell the MAP sensor on its own – they are asking me to buy a brand new intake from them for $750.

Has anyone here had to replace their MAP sensor? I am interested to hear your experiences with aftermarket ones and any issues with mating it to the stock MAP socket. Any other troubleshooting steps to perform before buying a new MAP. CEL codes checked out clean…

Thanks,

Arian

Get it new from the US.
Just about every US part is sold seperately.

Spray the wiring plug with contact cleaner and push it on/off many times. Often the MAP sensor is fine, just the contacts to it that are playing up.

Sometimes cable tying the wires so they pull to the side skews the contacts in the connector enough to ensure good contact.

Yup, try Chris' therapy first. Failing that, buy online from a Honda parts distributor.

Keep in mind you'll probably have to go OEM. The third party ones will mostly be other ranges for forced induction.

Thx to all that replied.

Tried cleaning the MAP sensor, I've also reset the ECU so it can relearn - did 300KMs this weekend and still running rich.
I will be going for a new map sensor.

Yes most VTECs run rich from factory; but mine is running richer than most s2ks. I get 400KM from a full tank. 420 with HWY driving... So overall not good.

Pretty much what I used to get +- 20 km for the town driving but I did get closer to 500 on the hwy.

You can def get a MAP sensor by itself. Its the TPS sensor that is not sold seperate and needs a new throttle body. Seems strange that Honda Au tried to make u get a new TB.
