Just curious. I came up from behind on a moving unmarked baconmobile on the Logan toll road yesterday. I was exceeding the speed limit when I noticed his radar hanging off the side of the car so slowed down to 105 and passed him. They didn't hassle me at all. They didn't even notice my front plate (the one that's not there or if they did they chose to ignore it). I can only assume the radar worked on cars in front of him and not behind. Can anyone confirm?

I've "heard" that it works both ways... but I don't see how they could have a mechanism in there to switch directyions in such asmall "box".

police radar work on the principle they get the people coming in the opposite direction. its because of the way the radar works out the speed. it wont work going in the same direction as you.

Those vehicle mounted radars seem to work fine on the highway when they are behind you

Don't know for certain now but when mobile radar were first introduced I was pulled over after passing a mobile unit on the Sydney / Newcastle Freeway. I figure if they could do it then they certainly can do it now.

<pls take with a grain of salt>

The switch is inside the policeman's head. We should open one up one day.
I reckon police radar works on telepathy

one day, you can go past at 20Km/h over, and nothing, or you follow a police car doing 80Km/h in a 60 zone, and they do nothing....The next day you get booked at 10Km/h over.

If you *think* you can you will get away with it...

(just kidding...)

wil..

I spoke to a traffic cop about a year ago and he told me that the radars mounted in police cars can only work on oncoming traffic while the cop car is in motion. They can however measure the speed of vehicles moving towards and away from the unit while the cop car is stationary.

Who knows, since then QLD cops could have upgraded their hardware.
