Imola
I believe they are still dealing with tire issues.
2005 really screwed them up. If you think about what happened last year and the previous race (Aus) I think you'll see the problem...
In a nut shell - 2005 they had to rejig the suspension to make the tires last all race, now this year they can change tires but they have trouble getting heat into them.
I think today they slightly damaged (for lack of a better word) the second set of tires today (too much heat)...

So he was running on used rubber, whereas Alonse was on fresh rubber for the race, hence the drop off (Shumacher was on fresh rubber for the 1st stint, used rubber for the rest of the race). It really was a trade-off for performance in quali vs. race, and in this case it payed off, if it were at a track that had more passing opertunities, maybe Alonso would have been able to pass, but that's a whole other issue all together.
Hope that helps
yeah no. Ferrari's drop off in performance were not entirely the tires. Actually, Schumi mentioned it in the post race interviews. There was some other problem with the car but he didn't know what it is. Also, if you watched the ferrari during the stops and at the end of the race, only the right front seemed slightly off but the others looked decent, dunno for sure but i think there was another issue....

Shane - post the lap times...Marco and I were talking and we really need to see the lap time...
i found it funny that the lollipop guy actually rammed the lolli back down and kept it down as if to stop the car
Watching that lolli biff Jenson was hilarious.
Ferrari were lucky it was a no-passing circuit. Ferrari are still not out of the woods, they simply do not have the race pace of the Renaults (no one does for that matter).
Exciting race nonetheless.

Odd, I feel good about that part.

You guys... sure wish I had been up there to watch this race with you two and the dark leader.
