Default Start racing?

I was wondering the best way to get into racing... not auto-x or nascar but full on track racing with a "real" car like an S2000, RX7, or BMW. I have loved the thought forever!!! I raced my dads lawnmower with my friend when i was about 10 and since then I have had the "need" for that type of compition. One of my old friends was racing carts in the 1st grade and next year he will be racing (cars). I would like to start early... I am 15 at the moment (will be getting an S around summer or at the latest setpember) and would like to start; I have the money to get into a school but finding one is the problem or even finding races at tracks besides auto-x. Please do not flame this thread... Keep it to the point regardless of my age and respect for cars...

Thanks, Kill

This book may be of help to you. It's called "How to Marry a Rich Woman in three Easy Steps".

Okay, just kidding. Read "Go Ahead, Take The Wheel" by Dave Gran, $16.95 from Dragon Publishing in Newington, CT. I found it at OG Racing at Summit Point. OG Racing's site may have it there.

Hope that helps.

Warren

Driving schools are key. Not sure what you can get into before you have a license, but look around at things like Skip Barber and such. Get as much seat time and instruction as possible. By the time you can legally drive, head out to track days as often as you can afford. That should be a good start.

Actually, your age is an advantage. You are only about five or six years behind your serious competitors, and you might be able to catch up. What it will take is a lot of money. Forget about buying an S2000. Take that money, multiply it by about five, and get into a kart racing program like your friend did.

What sort of karts were you racing? I took a 2-stroke KT100 racing class and I think I saw God at the end of a 700' straight (going 55-ish MPH an inch off the ground)!

Okay, so you're still not into karts. Aside from karts, aren't the spec RX7's and some of the older VW's the cheapest ways to start racing?

If you have the money, it sounds like you just need to go out and do it. If you don't know where to start, maybe talk to somebody like Skip Barber about taking one of their racing schools. They are designed for this purpose.
