I was going to do the same thing for probably the same hood you're picking up.

I'm not sure if its legal either, but when I got my first carbon hood i drove hoodless for abt 15 miles. I saw a couple cops but they didnt do anything. I might have just gotten lucky.

I looked through the CA vehicle code book and couldn't find anything specific as it relates to the requirement to have a hood. Your mileage may vary.

Great idea!

And watch the car go up in flames when it gets to its ignition temperature!
Dont seal it up, vent it out - I doubt it will catch on fire while on the road. Youre just minimizing the gapping hole.

True there is nothing specific but I think "the man" can use this against the OP... Vague interpretation of the law FTL!

24002. (a) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of
vehicles which is in an unsafe condition, or which is not safely
loaded, and which presents an immediate safety hazard.
(b) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of
vehicles which is not equipped as provided in this code.

Just drive speed limit and if OP does gets caught explain truthfully. GL
