I haven't used my GPS for 6 months... I just use the maps app on my iPhone.
You guys also have to keep in mind that when iPhones doesn't get any good coverage then the gps apps won't work...

Agreed. Poor data or simply lack of cell coverage and no GPS. It's happened a few times.

Think I'm ordering the part you suggested.

I have a Verizon I phone and I've never had a data drop that affected my gps on the phone with telenav. I've only tested it in the Santa Cruz mountains in that capacity though.

You're close to a large urban center. Last weekend on my drive in the mountains at 9k feet I was without cell coverage for 2 hours. Thankfully I pre-printed my maps. I was in northern california. I believe in the dead mans pass region. Didn't have a map to confirm though.

So true! Some of our yuppie cell towers are disguised as redwood trees.

Likewise with a garmin though. In fact if I don't have cellphone coverage, I don't have GPS coverage either on the Garmin.. Not to mention online apps are more up to date. I refuse to spend $75 to update my maps on the GPS when the phone is free.

to hell with that shit, life is expensive as it is!

This statement makes no sense. Having cell phone coverage shouldn't have any impact on GPS coverage, unless you are talking a tunnel. As a matter of fact, usually the opposite is true.

Hello! Good you? Will do.

I see tomtom has an iphone app this might work well.
The TomTom app for iOS is pretty good, though fairly expensive.

I think the TomTom app we bought was less than $40
