Open Autocross and/or Track
#21
Why not just do a track day? I personally never done autox, I feel that Autox are just a tease. Yes you can learn about the car in autox but it's a day night difference with some track time.
You will experience the full potential of your car, and you learn more about your driving skills.

If you want something really lax you can do autocross with SpeedSF. They don't do timing and its basically a free for all, all day. Before I starting doing track days I did an auto x day with them at Laguna Seca.

I plan to sign up for the NASA weekend at Sonoma in May and hopefully the Trackmasters autoX as well to test out my 260Z.
Go to the Driving/Register tab and select your event. If this is your first time, sign up for HPDE 1. An instructor will be provided automatically. All you need is a driver's license, helmet, and a car and you're ready to go! If you don't feel confident in tech'ing your car, bring it to a shop along with a tech sheet printed from NASA's website. The shop I used to work at, WORKS Motorsports, is located right at the track and can do the inspections (but make an appointment). You'll also have to pay $45-50 membership dues with NASA but that's just once a year and well worth it, IMO.
I hope to be there in my green 260Z. I'll come say hi if I'm there.
With that said I have a lot of shit to do in between the time I'm off (Friday) and track day. Anyone else happen to be going on the 17th?
How is it running without a tow hook? Can the rest of us manage with the stock tow points?

I'll be going this Sunday. Yes its fine running with the stock hooks.
That's the same way I started, except with the Trackmasters autoX which is a similar format (non-competitive, 20+ runs). It's a great way to learn car control and get to know your car!
Whats the procedure to sign up for NASA? I was looking at their end of the may event for sonoma! Is that the one you're planning on too?
Go to the Norcal region site, here: http://nasanorcal.com/?/site/section_schedule/

jdmwol2ks and I are going to Thunderhill on Sunday. Actually without him I probably wouldn't have been able to get out of the waitlist.

I plan on replacing the windshield before the event but just for future reference and for other folks. Would this pass tech/safety inspection for the track?
Rock hit my windshield on the way home during my commute the first week I bought the car (back in November). Because of the crazy weather recently the crack has grown from a small line to about 12 inches now.
::edit::
Got it fixed. Chris is the f@#king man. Used to whip around in an Accord, now he drifts Bimmers. He told me he's done a lot of windshields for guys at the track, has done events in Sonoma for drifting. He's a true enthusiast and I appreciate his great work. Professional, but most importantly ON POINT customer service. We were just shooting the shit while he worked on the windshield. Guy is super down to earth and is just like any car enthusiast excited about cars in general. Really great experience. He's a fan of Hondas and Bimmers. If you guys are having issues with your windshield hit him up. I'm also aware of the rear view mirror issues, but he said if I had any problems with it to give him a call and he'll take care of it.
