If anything I believe the judge will lower your ticket cost; that was the case for me like 5 years ago.
fees have gone up and courts are no longer allowed to reduce fees starting january 1st 2009

yeah how much did he charge you, and did you had any violations within 18 months?

after doing some reasearching i think i'll do TBD. there was this guy in the subaru forum that literally wrote only 2 words, which is "not guilty" in his letter and case got dismissed. haha. of course i'll try to write down the best explanation i could in my letter. the thing is, i dont mind paying the ticket but i really dont want my insurance to go up.

one more note: the popo tried to intimidate me by saying that i could go to court but if i lose i could wind up in jail. thats the main reason in my post above that i initially just plan on paying it until the clerk helped me.
I don't remember the exact amount since this was back in like 2005, but it wasn't cheap that's for sure. Over $1k for sure.

I didn't have any violations within 18 months, but when you're going 100+, it's a whole nother code that you get written up for besides a regular speeding ticket.

The penalties are a lot harsher too.

Car impounded
License suspension
Mandatory court appearance in the county you got cited
2 points on the license
The court fines/fees

The way I saw it, if I had to do it on my own, i'd be taking time off work to go out to kern county to go to court, get my license suspended for 30 days, 2 points on my license, the insurance hike for the 2 points for 3 years, the fees/penalty the court will slam me with. I didn't get my car impounded or arrested, but that option is at the cop's discretion at the time they pull you over.

In the end, what it would have cost me with all the penalties and fees, it was way more than what I shelled out in attorney fees. I got my entire ticket dismissed as if it never happened. Lesson learned.

I believe going over 100mph is considered as a felony if you get caught.

I got caught by this camera for not stopping at the red light making a right turn. Couldn't contest it given the judge showed me the digital video on his desktop where both the front and back of my car was captured for few seconds and my brake light was never on during that night. cost a cool $400 for both ticket as well as traffic school.

Depending on scenarios, sometimes you can or can't contest.
