It's so hard to believe (not that it isn't true) that all gas can be the same if it's being refined by different companies. I know this isn't the same type of analogy, but all fast food isnt the same regardless of what cow farms the beef came from. They're all priced competitively, but there is always a type of "preference" for something over the other.
Its very difficult to argue the cause that all gasoline is the same to each other since very few things, in general, are equal.

I filled up with Arco once and when i finished that tank, i filled up with chevron. I noticed a 40-50 mile difference with Cheveron coming out on top. I did try to keep my driving patterns the same, Shifting before 3k, etc but i didnt follow the same route for each tank. It was the same amount of highway vs street and all of my driving was on flat ground for the most part.
And i live in California as well.
I would still be filling up with Chevron if it wasn't for the fact that i just got a costco membership

Gasoline is a physical composition.
The same way that H2O is H20 assuming we're talking about a refined H20 and not just some pond water.
40-50 miles? Man... think about it, if that wasn't error somehow Chevron would ADVERTISE THIS!!!! Notice they don't it's because it'd be false advertising.
Maybe wind or ambient temps.

True story, however I've had multiple "coincidences" so many times in very specific cases that I can't help believing in a higher power using only logical thinking.
That's another story though.
