car registration question
how can I register a car without a pink slip?
I have the bill of sale but the dmv is saying that the bill of sale is not valid because the owner on the bill of sale does not match their record on the computer. the car is not stolen but the car was never registered with the guy I bought it from because the car was being used as a project car and it just sat there. I contacted the guy I bought it from and he said that the name on the bill of sale was the person he bought it from. he is contacting that person now...
what should i do?
will this application help me find the address of the last known owner:
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/inf/inf70.pdf
thanks for your help guys

There is no reason why that guy would NOT pay 5.00 to register the car. To REGISTER a car w/o driving, and for storage purpose is 5.00.
This car is illegal from what I understand unless you can find the name on that original pinkslip and have him sign over, and if he's an @ss, he can actually take that car from you.

you cant register a car without a pink slip. a bill of sale is a formality and doesn't mean anything. good luck. btw...if there is no pink slip, the original owner will have to jump through hoops in order to get a new one issued by the state.

actually getting a pink slip is very easy. back when i sold my previous car i just went to the dmv with the new owner and they issued a new pink slip on the spot and immediately transferred ownership. bread and butter.
Ie: You sold your car to me. I never recieved the pink slip. Now I sell the car to Nancy. Nancy wants to register the car. Nancy is screwed. BC never officially sold the car b/c there was no Pink Exchanged. BC never really owned the car since BC didn't have the Slip himself. Nancy needs to get a hold of you. If you decided to jack her over, and say you never sold the car and you hold the pink, then it's still your car.

I would not even drive the car right now, without a pink slip you have no ownership in the car.
No ownership = no insurable interest
No insurable interest means if you crash it, you get nothing.
