2001 M Roadster (0-60 4.5 sec, 1/4 mi 13.1)
While doing research on the AMG C32, I found this post on C&D's latest roadster test.

Both the SLK32 and M Roadsters are seriously fast, nothing like their earlier counterparts. The C32 being a 4-door sedan and 300 lbs heavier is probably a tick behind the SLK32.
Can't wait until I get my hands on one....

Those are some pretty awesome numbers we sure can't match. The poor Boxster S is not in the same league anymore. Next years Vette is getting a power boost to 405hp up 20hp,and 400ft lbs torque up 15ft lb

You must be thinking about the M-coupe because the new 315-hp (335-hp for the M3 but the coupe has added exhaust restrictions) doesn't come in the roadster. I saw a report in a magazine last month on the new M-Coupe and from what I recall the numbers were no where near what your describing???? 4.5 is moving for a stock car and few will actually achieve that. I also saw a review on the new SLK32 and again the numbers were not impressive like your stating??????????
I would suggest we both re-check our numbers but I don't think you need worry except for the vette.

On Sunday, there was a silver SLK 32 (C&D car) behind me on the highway. He saw me merging onto highway about 1/4 miles in front of him. He came up behind me right away and stay there for quite a while. I waived at him and he waived back. I droped into 3rd gear from 6th and left him. By the time I was in 5th gear, he is about many car length behind me. I am sure SLK 32 is a much faster car. I bet that automatic defintely killed its performance.

Yeah there is an HP pissing contest underway. They used to be called muscle cars and I guess they still are. You can pretty much be assured that no matter what you get next year's will have more. If that's your thing.
This is OT BTW.

Honda should seriously consider adding more power via additional displacment or cylinders. Then again, we're talking about a $33K car up against $50K+ cars. I suppose Honda's key competitors are not the German ubercars, but the real sweet spot is where the base Z3, Miatas and MR Spyders of the world live. It'd be great to see more power from the showroom floor without aftermarket S/C or Turbos, but probably will never happen.
If Honda were to add horsepower, I imagine they'd have to increase the price proportional to the power increase. Imagine paying $45K for an S2000 that packs a 3.2L six with a sequential shifter and 340HP, it'd probably be a tough sell to Honda's board members but an easy one to this online board.
Also, BMW is supposedly making a SMG semi-auto sequential shifter available this Winter. I believe the SMG has been an option in non-US markets for some time now. Something like this would be fun in an S2000, sans the 1-2 grind.

The original idea was for a will balanced 2L roadster. If Honda follows the NSX pattern (10 years and one small displacement and hp gain) there wont likely be a larger engine. The NSX has less power than all it competition now.

Actually, the NSX has always had less power than it's competition. I concede your point though. Honda threw down the gauntlet and everyone has risen to the challenge. If honda replies, it will be with a future model.
