The Tourareg had a horrible reliability reputation. Dunno if they improved.
Mine is an '04 V6. I think the V8s inparticular were the ones with the most problems.
Not fast by any means, but classy, good handling, comfortable......and my wife hates the way the FX looks.
We'll buy out the lease when it is up next year.
Love the Touareg interior - first class all the way and much nicer than the FX. However, I have heard nothing but horror stories about their reliability (including first hand experience from the executive VP of the last company I was with - he traded his first one back in within 24 hours due to electronics problems and they gave him another one).
FX35 all the way, especially since it's a better street machine and it looks way nicer on the outside. There is no FX350, by the way.

I used to have the 2003 FX45 for 2 years (leased). It was excellent all around. No problems with it ever. My neighbor 3 doors down has still has his 2004 Toureg. He loves it too except for the amount of time his car spends in the shop which I believe it is 7 times to date. He had electrical issues twice. The biggie was the transmission dropped out. That took 3 weeks to fix since it was on order for 2 weeks and took 3 days to fix. So, from what I have experience myself and seen/heard from others. Infiniti FX is the best choice IMHO.
Personally, I think the FX is less than pretty. Yes, it might handle better than other SUVs but it's still an SUV. Not only that is has less cargo space than a Mazda6 wagon. You drive a sports car, I can't see you happy with something like an SUV over a wagon (Subi Legacy GT?).
The VW would be my choice but for the fact that VW is about the only company who's reliability really makes me nervous.

My mother has the FX35 sport. We all love it. Has a more car like demeanor with a rear-drive biased approach to awd. My friend who at the time had an X5 sold it and bought one after driving it. Sportier and very comfortable. Actually kind of lightweight for what it is.
i was in the same predicament and i choose the touareg. FOr what I use it for which is to haul stuff around, I found the touareg much more usable. Plus I got the air suspension and putting it in sport mode makes it hunker down and drive to me like an x5 4.4i sport I drove prior to it. I got the v8 so it is faster then I thought it would be . I liked the fx35 I test drove but it didnt have the solid feeling on the highway that I expierenced with the touareg. I find the backseats of the fx35 very small and really wierd and hard to get out of. Plus in the fx35 looking back through the rear view mirror seemed like tunnel vision. Just some points I had. Hope this helps
For me the Infiniti hands down. I know a few people that had the t-reg and havd too many problems.
Now I really like the new Porsche SUV (V6 now has 290hp) but I have sees the left-over Cheyennes in the paper for $10K off sticker.
