There was a TSB covered under warranty for 2nd and 3rd gear syncros. If you test drive a one (higher mileage ,cold transmission)) and it doesn't grind then you should be good to go. It'll feel notchy when you change gears. You couldalways take it in for an inspection. Also, if you're not after performance pick up a base model with an auto tranny.
