I would venture to say that there are more exotics sold than H1s.
I would venture to say that there are more pieces of candy sold than there are boxes of "Stouffers Corner Bistro Grilled Rosemary Chicken"

...It's apples to oranges...or in this case, All exotics to just H1s.

Avalanche: 14/19 2WD, 14/18 4WD
Tahoe: 16/22 2WD, 15/21 4WD
Suburban: 15/21 2WD, 15/20 4WD
Trailblazer V8: 16/21 2WD, 15/21 4WD
Hummer H2: 12/16
Hummer H1: Couldn't find exact numbers. I'm not sure if it's because they're too bad to post or if it's because the people buying them don't give a crap anyway. Probably the latter. However, it's got a 51.5 gallon fuel tank and they "estimate" a 570 mile cruising range. That's 11.1mpg. It also does 0-60 in 13.5 seconds.

There is one key difference between the "exotic" H1 and other exotics like Lamborghini's and Ferrari's and that is that GM doesn't pay gas guzzler tax on H1's or any other SUV's they make for that matter. There is usually a $4500-5500 gas guzzler tax on a Lamborghini, which roam the streets by the, what? Couple of hundreds? Give me a break. Everyone can pull the, "My vehicle is more useful than yours" card because it has more cargo space or more room. If I don't need more cargo space or more room, that's simply your opinion. Everyone knows that the majority of SUV's will never see offroad conditions or be packed with the 4-6 people they are designed to hold.

Everyone knows that 99.99% of all exotics purchased won't see the 180+ mph top speeds they were designed for and capable of. I love exotics. They are exciting to see and I love to hear their motors scream. I'm glad they are on the street. They are great image cars, symbolizing their race car counterparts. I don't care that they are gas guzzlers. Their owners have paid for it many times over, starting with when they bought their car and then every time they pump gas.

But I'm not such a hipocrate as to bash SUV owners for the gas they burn in an image car that is rarely ever used for it's designed purpose and then give a free pass to exotic car owners who rarely if ever use their cars for it's designed purpose of sustained high-speed travel over 150mph.

I don't bash either group of owners. Love them all. They are having fun, paying their own way and aren't hurting anyone in the process. So why can't the SUV haters have the same attitude?

The military h1 and the civilian h1 are built mostly on the same line, but before the end of the line the civilian version is sent to another building to be assembled and finished aka painted and interior

Apparantely they've signed a contract with Jeep and they're going to start using one of their vehicles.

Are we seriously comparing the H1 to an S. This is one of those places we could use SteveC

It all depends on where you live and what you do. I have never in my life needed to go offroad except to "go muddin" with my hick friends. Hence, why I have an S and not an H1.

How many owners of H1's actually use it for going through five feet of water, breaking through sand dunes, pounding its way through heavy brush, or any other thing it was built for????

How many S owners use it to run the twisties, cruise with the top down, and plain enjoy driving it????

Seems like a simple answer to me!
You obvoiously have not known anyone that own an H1? The one person I know that owned an H1 lived on a 50 acre piece of land with multiple ravines and streams and used to run over small trees (less than 12"dia), fjord streams sometimes as deep as 6' and launch it over the 10'-20' banks of the stream. It is an extremely useful ans fun vehicle for those that need the capabilities.

Who cares if Paris Hilton doesn't hit 180 mph in her Lambo? What about the 20 million people driving their monstrosities around solo everyday? This is not just about the H1. I consider the H1 an "exotic" SUV. How many other SUV's cost $140,000? Someone compared gas guzzling SUV's in general to gas guzzling exotics. The number of exotics in this country are insignificant compared to the number of SUV's on the road. GM sold over 550,000 Trailblazer, Yukon, Avalanche, Suburban and Tahoes in this country in 2005 alone. That's just 5 models. I bet Lamborghini hasn't sold much more than 50,000 vehicles for the world in the 43 years they've been around and most of them probably sit in a garage. GM sold over 56,000 H2 and H3's last year. The numbers are on such opposite ends of the spectrum that comparing the practicality of SUV's to exotics is asinine. I "worship" gas-guzzling exotics because I haven't seen one in.... hmmm, I can't remember. SUV's however... oh yeah, I had a Tahoe park crooked, 2 feet over his line next to me in a parking lot yesterday because it didn't fit in the space and the moron was too lazy to straighten it out after he/she pulled in.
