Comfort and quality is everything. Forget about looks. Shoei and Arai make the best fitting helmets by a significant margin. This isn't really arguable as there is logical reasons, some mentioned in the post above, to explain this. Soumy fits me well but people with less "normal" head shapes don't always have that experience. Some Arai helmet prices are so rediculous it is usually better to buy a solid color highend japenese helmet unless you are rich. The first helmet I ever bought was a Sheoi TZ-1 5+ years back. It still fits excellent and has very little to any wear.
Your post is just ignorant. By saying that arai and shoei make the best fitting helmets shows you really don't know what your talking about. I own all of the big 4. Arai Rx-7, Shoei X-11, AGV Ti Tech, and the suomy Spec-1R in both Extreme and normal form. On my head the arai and the shoei fit the worst. Granted its not horrible but they do not fit or feel as good as my AGV and suomy. Its all about the shape of your head. Not everyone's head is the same therefor the helmets are not going to fit the same for everyone. Personally the only arai Rx-7 that fits me ok is the japanese version. The shell that is sold there is different in shape then the one sold in the US.

yeah, i think everyones been in this position. So most logical thing to do would be to go to a store that carries a lot of brands such as Shoei, AGv, Arai, etc... and try them all on!

Comfort is a biggey. but also make sure:
* your chin isn't sticking out the bottom of the helmet.
* you cant stick any fingers between your cheeks and and the helmet when it is on ( fitment issue )
* the helmet cannot rotate sideways very much ( trying shacking your head like your saying "no" and see how well the helmet stays in place)
* when you find a helmet that fits pretty comfortably, meausre your head with measuring tape and compare sizes with the manufacturers suggested sizing.
* get reflective tint so when you check out chicks, they dont know you are checking them out. And when they check you out you can pretend not to notice.

Well today I went to a loca store to try some helmets on. Sadly they did not carry Soumy. I tried a brand I never tried before...Shark. I was pretty impressed with their RSX model. (I was, all I need now is the Acura) Anyways I'm still saving so hopefully soon I'll post pics of the new lid.

Question: Do the Suomy makes noise because of the plastic covers on the visor? I hope it doesn't because the price is a little high.

I tried one on and loved the feel but riding is a different game, noise drives me crazy.

Skarks are great helmets. There top of the line helmet is the RSR2 Its worn by many of the top races including Troy Corser, Duhamel, Alex Baros, Carl Mugeridge and more.

Yes the Suomy's with side pods make noise. They make a high pitched whistle at certain angles of attack. They have a new model called the Vandal. Really nice great price with no side pods. I have ordered pretty much all my helmets from imotorcyclestore.com they always have the best price and if they don't which rarely happenes they beat the price or match it. They also offer free shipping on pretty much every helmet. You will get the best price here.

Troy Bayliss, James Toseland and Andrew Pitt all wore the Vandal in World super bike last year so its not cheap lid considering these guys trust it at 200mph.

They just released a limited edition Troy Bayliss one not listed on that site but they do sell it. I just ordered one tonight.

by the way don't go by the price listed on the article about the LE helmet. imotorcyclestore is selling for $373 free shipping. The regular vandal designs are even cheaper. just call or email them for the lowest price.
