I just recently bought a 1984 3.2 Carrera Coupe, and i love it! No power steering, no abs, cable clutch..... The car has such an amazing mechanical feel to it. You truly feel involved in the drive. The g-series cars (72-89 i believe) are the last classic 911's, before the 964 and 993 came out, which had modern amenities like power steering and so on. they are also very simple to work on. Everything short of rebuilding the engine is easy. The engine itself can be removed in about an hour and a half, and once thats done, all maintenance is super easy. The engines are simple, no coolant to worry about since it is air cooled and has a dry sump for the oil that holds 16 quarts of oil. Some parts can be expensive, especially for the older models since some of the parts are no longer available.

As for Project Nasty being a DD... I don't think so, not without AC, radio, and being so loud that you require ear plugs. Street legal track car, yes, DD, no... Which on that note, I'd like to use an 85-89 as my DD - i'll of course be keeping the S2k and my truck as back up vehicles for the inevitable times when work will need to be done.
