Thank you all and Luke especially. I knew that the cost of ownership would be pretty substantial, but I'll have to admit that some of those prices are quite high. I'm sure I'd be able to perform any minor servicing myself with the aid of the internet and service manuals, but the larger Honda Civic priced intervals frighten me a tad.

I think it's this whole exotic thing may have pulled the wool over my eyes. I had the same thing happen when I purchased my first ducati -which was expensive to maintain, and then my second - even worse. Man should learn from history but I'm a masochist and love repeating my mistakes.

We'll see. I'm in my mid-30's, I still have a good 20 years to bump up my offshore accounts for the car I really want, and shouldnt rush into anything.. especially an impulse buy.

If I may, give ample consideration to Porsche. A 964 or a 993 can be had at the price range you are looking for, they are pleasing to the eye and have the pedigree you desire. Maintenance is an issue, but not as menacing as the 308. Besides, its relatively easy to find a good p-car mechanic.

Just a thought.

I've always loved the 993 turbo and the C4S. This is another car that I've always wanted (long list . But unfortunately, decent examples of these cars cannot be found in my price range. The standard C2 and C4 models just don't have the rear fenders and stance that I find pleasing.

I'll keep my eyes open. This weekend I've got an appt to check out the new Z06, and I'll visit a few higher end used car places as well.

Note - I think minor service needs to be performed annually or every 15k, whatever comes first. Major service (again i think) is time regulated as well...meaning, if you only drive it 10k in five years, you still need to have the service done every 2 years. Again YMMV, I pulled these prices off a F-car forum. If your budget is limited, F-cars are not the ones to own...

I can afford to BUY a Ferrari, but I'm not sure I could afford to OWN a Ferrari.

BTW - I thought the fiberglass models were only the first ones in '76.

Cool car, if you do not mind the wrenching and the money involved go for it. You only live once, and the opportunity to pick up a Ferrari in good condition does not come around every day.
