Drive a Ford to work or else...
Hmmmm.....and then these rednecks wonder why they are going bankrupt.....This is great publicity.
Did anyone catch the ford commercial with that tool....Ford Jr. He says
"We will reclaim american roads"
Yea right chump.

And they have been slumping for years. This is bad publicity anyway you slice it. People will see how "unreasonable" this is. If someone wants to drive another make, they cant park at their job? Give me a break. I cant wait till these two companies go bankrupt. For the last 3 years I wished they did, and I might get it. I am going to have a party when GM nosedives. I loved it when Bush said no to them for the money they were asking for.

And there in a nutshell is the problem. Unskilled labor on an assembly line should not be paying enough to afford anything beyond an economy car.
I think Ford fcuked up by failing to put the proper spin on this policy.
They should have announced the new policy as:
"New Benefit: Preferred Parking Status now available to loyal FoMoCo driving Associates"

does the dude that attaches the string to the tampon have no pride in his work because he refuses to use Tampax?
I don't think anyone at Ford would have a problem with an employee walking to work or taking public transportation.

Uh, this isn't janitorial work we're talking about here. Not that janitors deserve to be slammed on, but I would argue you want people getting decent pay if they are helping to build what keeps you safe when you go to work, home or whatever every day. The lower someone gets paid, the less likely they are to give a crap.
I've worked in a factory before, and we had so many lackadaisical schlubs come in and work for a day or a week and skip town because they were only getting $6/hr. Everyone else that got paid higher and was there for several years were the ass-kickers in the place.
It was work in constructional materials, rebar specifically. The lackadaisical schlubs that held out for a month or two were lax enough that work had to be redone because A) they either didn't operate the machines as instructed, or B) felt what they did was 'good enough' and hung up their hat at 3 on Friday.
Let me end this by saying that yes, there are UAW workers getting more money than they deserve. But this happens in any walk of life. How many people here know someone in their workplace that is getting $10-20k more than they perform at work? Seriously, if anybody thinks UAW wrote the book in how to screw an employer, you're kidding yourself.
And it's not like their pay stopped whatever product ideas GM obviously *didn't* have for decades. UAW is not entirely to blame, I don't care what anybody says.
The "proper spin statement" was the correct iway to do this as mentioned. It isnt like they cant work there or drive something else. they just dont want the front lot full of competing makes. If some employee is so subversive as to want to park his competitions vehicle out front then maybe they dont even want them. I'm trying to look at the companies point of view here but, I can also see where someone would feel that it should be thier choice. I think parking preference towards the front is a fair deal.
