EJ25 or 4G63

I'm a big fan of the 4g63. They'll handle tons of boost and can be built to spin up to 9k+ also. That being said, I'd never stick an iron block in this car, you'll throw off the balance. If you're going through the effort, build the F22C.

The EJ or the 4G are horrible ideas.... They are horizontally mounted...with the idea of having 4wd or fwd. Unless you can swap over the full all wheel drive from the EVO including AYC and what not...then this is a really moot swap. You want torque? V8, 2JZ, RB32. But the stock F will do 450 reliably with a turbo.

An unopened, bone stock F20/22 can (and has several times) net 800+ wheel horsepower with the right turbo/fueling setup (e85 of course). You claim to know a lot about the "automobile industry", but maybe you should research more before making such a bold comment. I've come from the world of DSM's and 4G63's. Yes, it is a remarkable engine, but far from reliable. Take a browse in the forced induction section of the forum, you'll see several builds at well over 450rwhp. The weak link in the s2000 isn't the engine, it's the drive train. Boost the f series, swap in a V160 transmission and a Ford 8.8 rearend, and you can beat on it all day with no regard.

I have to agree with many others here. If you are going to the trouble of swapping a motor, do it right the first time and put an LSx in it. Going to another 4-cylinder is a complete waste of time and money if you ask me. The F20/F22 have forged everything from the factory and can handle more boost than a stock 4G63 and probably an EJ-whatever (I can say I don't know much about the latter engine). The 4G63 is known to be an exceptionally strong motor but most people seem to forget that in stock form they can't really be pushed any further (or even as far) as a stock F20/F22.
So yeah, if you are going to spend the time and money fabbing a motor swap: first of all more power to you, but second of all please reconsider trying to put in a 'better' 4-cylinder as you aren't really going to get much farther. Go big and put in a heads/cam LSx. Hell, boost it while you're at it.

Lol @ the ej being a more reliable engine than an F series. EJ's have always been the weak point in the wrx/sti, specifically the pistons/rings, not counting the wrx's 5 speed. If you hang around here long enough you'll find the F series is whats makes the s2k and the drivetrain is the weak link. Stock block F's are well documented to hold well up to 6-700hp without any issue for many, many thousands of miles but the diff and trans are what won't hold up to it. Most people making big power are moving on to supra 6spd getrags and ford 8.8 rears.
On the other hand, the 4g's will also take a hell of a beating and might as well be Mitsubishi's reliable equivalent to the F and should make some more torque. There is really little point in swapping out an F series unless you have to be unique or you must have torque, in which case you effectively bought the wrong car.
I'm all for swapping engines and making interesting frankensteins out of cars but you have to keep in mind how expensive and how much trouble and headaches are involved. And the s2k isn't a car that needs an engine swap.
