EVO 8/9 vs. S2000

An Evo maintenance is...
expensive brembo sized brake pads, and 12.6" front rotors and 11" vented rear rotors
THREE differential fluids to change
Mobil1 oil only, or any other synthetic
91 gas, that it drinks like a drunk in a brewery.
235/45/17 or wider tires at all four corners that have to be replaced all at one time, or risk ruining your center diff.
The Evo has the "boy racer" look because of society.
If you look back at the early 90s, people were putting big spoilers on their cars, buying hoods with vents, and installing all these "race inspired" parts to make their cars look racy.
-The hood on the Evo is aluminum, with an aluminum grill that's vented to help extract heat from the turbo
-The front bumper has huge openings to feed the oil cooler (right side vent) the intercooler, (middle) and intake (left side)
-The rear spoiler on an Evo is made of carbon to stiffen it so it doesn't wobble at high speeds like the STI's wing. It's also placed high up to take advantage of the air coming off the roof
-The vortex generator (spikes on the roof) was engineered by Mitsubishi in a wind tunnel to help direct the air onto the spoiler and keep it off the rear windshield. ...and coincidentally, you find many Hondas, and other cars doing the same visual mods to their cars ..... just to look racy....
I don't think I have to explain the Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, Advan tires and Enkei wheels do I?

So far in my life experience whenever I came across an EVO owner randomly (therefore not at a meet/show/enthusiast event or met through friends), they were either causing trouble or they just insist on bad mouthing other cars and talk about how wondrous their cars are. Surprisingly, every STI owner I met so far has been real cool. Of course, this is completely my life experience and you can call it what you will, but seems like a lot of folks have been rubbed the wrong way by EVO owners, but I will admit that at thsi point it may be a self fulfilling prophecy on my part.
Anyway, EVOs are very capable cars, fun and feel is subjective, so on an objective level the EVO gets my vote. I love my S but I feel it's time to move on, I find that EVO owners tend to stay with them.
I just wish that EVOs had the under the radar appeal they used to have, that only enthusiasts really knew about like the Cossie. Dah well.
You should speak to people in other countries about the Evo. It is heralded as one of the best performance cars to have ever been made.
A friend from Romania was set to buy a STi and had been saving for a year. I happen to run into him one day with my Evo and he had this completely blown away look on his face. All he could talk about was my Evo.
He said that he didn't even bother looking at an Evo because they were so much more expensive in his country than a STi was. After I told him how much I paid, he bought one the next day.
As a long time Evo owner, I have yet to drive another car that gives me the confidence, driving experience and smile that my Evo does. I've driven GT3s, 996 turbos, modded S2Ks, STis, and many others.
But mine is pretty modded

I own an Evo IX and an S2000.
The S2000 is more fun and rewarding to drive. Chicks dig it.
The Evo is faster and more practical. Chicks hate it.

add a couple other little things in there like reliability, ease of mods/gains, upkeep and that's that.
i, like many, got an S because it's fun to drive (for me, the most fun to drive i could afford). Evo's/STi's are great cars IMO, but offer something different.
of course in these Winter months, i envy AWD owners

Is the Evo faster from a roll? I...*ahem*...had a friendly contest with one outside Tyler a few weeks ago and pulled about a half car length on him from 40 mph to 110 mph.

I find that really hard to believe, even if the Evo was bone stock.

The evo/sti is the new civic. I see them everywhere and they are all being modded like crazy. I'd say the styling is more "boy racer" than "boy ricer"...by that I mean people putting functional mods (wings and boost and rims et. all) and not tracking/autoxing/rallying.

I really don't since they have to wait for the turbo to spool (unless he was brake boosting) and they are heavier. Also, a stock evo usually dynos about 240 awhp? Which is considerably more than the s2000, but other factors play a roll in the race as well. (i.e. the cd of a car, like you've mentioned before)
I have no idea what rpm an Evo is at when rolling at 40 mph, though. In my S2000, I'm at or near VTEC in 2nd gear so I'm getting plenty of punch off the bat.
