85k for a slowish toy...hmm...no thanks.

JonBoy is absolutely right. If you are going to try and make a track beast and spend your hard earned cash a 930 911 is a great choice. Low entry price point and a ton of performance parts. This lotus makes no sense to me.

You don't know what your talking about..... Do you?
Sorry, you don't. This 85k car would have no hope, on a real track, against other 85k cars. An S2000 on a diet could give this thing fits. It's much easier to squeeze a lot more tire under an S2000 for example then an elise.

That much downforce (enough to make 1900 lbs x 250HP = only 155MPH top speed) means it will be much, much faster in the corners than 99% of high-end street cars. I'm sure that thing would be phenomenal.
What are you talking about? Weight has very little to do with top speed. The car can have very normal aero, read: little to no downforce, and only reach 155 on 190HP. The Bugatti Veyron for example only needs 225HP to reach 150mph and it weighs 4000lbs.

the 190 hp elise seems to do pretty well against an F40.

With respect, the ultimate demonstration of competition / track inexperience is pointing to random videos of random people of random talent driving random cars at random levels of prep at random levels of aggression as proof of anything. There are way too many variables to draw conclusions from random web video -- I see good drivers in stock Minis beat drivers in Corvettes and other fast cars all the time.

There is no way an Exige, even a supercharged one, will keep up with an equivalently-driven C5 or C6 Corvette on a track with any meaningful straightaways. There's no need to "prove" this -- it's self-evident to anyone with track experience.

Preserve what's left of your credibility and drop this line of argument. No one's saying that the Exige S isn't an amazingly cool car; they're just disputing your ill-informed assertion that it can keep up with really fast cars like the Z06 or GT3.

Meaningful straightaways meaning a drag strip? I never argued anything about a cup car vs a Z06 to have to 'preserve my credibility'. Maybe you're referring to someone else? I only posted specs of the cup car and commented that I see no need to modify it. You obviously have something to prove.

Ok, I'll stop arguing with your pronouncements of track wisdom.

I'm not making any pronouncements of track wisdom. Different strokes. The cup car is a cool car. The z06 is a cool car. The GT3 is a cool car. They each excel in different areas. I personally feel the corvette is a bit numb feeling, but that's just me. Some people love the torque. I personally would get the cup 255 if it were street legal, but that's just me. I'm really not a fan of internet pissing contests.

Brennon, have you ever raced? I mean, RACED! Not auto-x, not street racing, but lap after lap of racing on a circuit longer than a mile, with other cars in the way and speeds of over 100mph?

If not, you're probably best just backing off. You're arguing with people that own(ed) and race(d) cars and know what you can and can't do and what you do and don't need on a race car.

The point is, you see no need to modify because you've never owned a dedicated race car (apparently) or else had limitless resources to fund said dedicated race car.

I forgot that with the single car that you daily drive, (used boxster was it?) you are the ultimate authority on dedicated track cars and the costs to maintain them. Seriously, get real. I have no desire to fight with you.
