Sure they pack some power but I would not go overboard, they still test out to 60 in over seven and a half seconds. Torque is fun but can be very misleading. Seven and a half to sixty is great for a truck, don't get me wrong, but it was the same time as my V6 Alero, which was not a speed machine by any means.

And like the C&D comparo, the Ram and the titan got sub 13 mpg. If he was looking for fuel efficiency, 12 is not that great. And it might not strain you budget but say an extra five gallon a week at $.50 a gallon average cost is $650 a year. That extra $650 might be a bigger deal to some.
Believe me, I hear ya. Just remember, at the drag strip "the little car that might not be able to" can kill "the big car who clearly can", because so much of it boils down to reaction time and skill. And, when a huge truck leaps off the line some people go into shock, thus their reaction time sucks.

Car & Driver is one of the most worthless magazines on the planet. I pull 18+ on the expressway, and with my mostly city with a bit of rural mixed in I get 15 to 16; those numbers are not even close to sub 13, and note, my Titan is a 4x4 not a 4x2.

I hear that. ALL of there mpg numbers are with foot to the floor at all times, so it usually safe to add 10-20% in real world. 18 is not to bad on the highway for so much power.

I am not a truck guy, I have always gotten a kick out of driving the smallest cars I can find, but if I had to go full size, my choice would be either the Titan or the new Chevy quad. I hate to admit that. The GM truck have always been hideously ugly to me, but they have actually made the new version look smooth.

As for my comment about seven and a half to sixty being not that fast, it isnt. But when you consider the weight of these things and that it used to take 9 to 11 seconds just a few years ago, it has to be very nice for the truck buyers.

Because this is also true for me, I drive a real truck.
dougie,

getting excited about a truck is akin to getting excited about being executed.
