Green Genesis coupe w/ 2.0L 290hp turbo engine

The new Hyundais are quite impressive, got to roll around in an azera and found the quality to be quite good.
I dunno why people say that hyundai can't match/surpass the quality of toyota or honda. If they could build a V6 car with a transmission that lasts for at least 100K, they already got honda beat (accord, TL, CL, dunno about the newer models, but this was during honda's heyday). Toyota just recalled all tacomas from 1995-2004 because of frame defects.
This new coupe really caught my attention, and then I saw the weight of the four banger model and just sighed.

Um, no actually it's not. It's called being cognoscente to your surroundings. If you live in blinders land you might have missed the recalls, class action law suites, and general ruckus revolving around Avalons transmission problems. You might have noticed that the 2007 Camry got a 3 star power train IQ rating, down from 4 1/2 stars for the '06 model. You might even have noticed the absence of the Toyota Tundra and V6 Camry from CR's recommended list. Don't believe in CR, JD, etc because you're a stuborn asshole? Maybe you might have heard Toyota's PR statements about the V6 Camry vowing to do better and trying to reassure customers they would do better. Speaking of which, wheres the 4wd Tundra? Oh, yah that was another one with poor reliability.
I did a quick search and found the Camry on most favorable lists.

Toyota may have slipped a little due to massive expansion (and careless U.S. workers ) but most of their vehicles are still very reliable.

Notice the lack of the V6 Camry on the CR recommended list? Nor has Toyota addressed the problems for the '08 models. Sort of like how they never addressed the problems in the Avalon. Incidentally, the Avalon just got a new 6 speed auto for '08. Unfortunately it seems to have more than its share of problems as well.
As I said, most of Toyota's line up still seems like it is typical Toyota in terms of quality. If "most" is acceptable enough for you to continue to blindly trust the Toyota name cool. For me it isn't. The only reason I would buy any of Toyota's lineup is reliability and "most of are cars are great, but you might get a V6 Camry with a transmission from hell that we can't do anything about" isn't good enough for me to trust the name. I'd go ahead and wait out the first year and see if any problems popped up. "It's a Toyota" just doesn't quite inspire my confidence in quite the same way any more.
