Default HELP!

hey guys, i am posting here becuase i need help regarding my friend's R6(2000, carburated).

he let me drive it around the neighborhood which i have done before, but i dropped it this time :dunce: this is what happened; i was slowing down to turn it around, but i was not going to make the turn. i was heading for the curb at like 5 MPH and i pulled in the clutch and slammed the front brakes. my body got popped up and my feet lost contact with the ground. at that point the bike was at a complete standstill and started to tip over to the left. i was not able to keep it from falling. it fell to its side (left) and i picked it back up immediately.

Now, here is the problem; I tried to put it in neutral and roll it backwards away from the curb, but it would NOT go back into neutral. it was stuck in either first or second gear. we could push it down into first, but the gear lever would not spring back into the middle/neutral position. we could push it up into second gear, but again it would not spring back into the middle/neutral postion. what could be the problem?

additional details; it would not start at first, but it did after a bit. i think it was because there was no fuel in the engine(?). it landed on the crank case where it says "YAMAHA" and it scratched there. no other damage really. just a few minor scratches and i need to get him a new clutch handle.

what could be the problem? i am paying for the repair becuase i messed it up. any help would be GREATLY appreciated. i was about to buy around $600 worth of parts for my S2000, but not anymore.

thanks in advance!!

-Dan

Sounds like you may have bent the shift lever or linkage. Check to see it all moves correctly. I droped a bike once on the left side and my shift lever bent causing it to be difficult to shift till I bent it back.

As John said, it sounds like the foot shifter is bent or binding. It is attached to the rear set on the R6's so when an R6 goes over, if the peg gets bent, it can effect the shifter. If the alignment is off just a little, it can probably be bent back into shape. If not, there are aftermarket rear sets available that are a lot more durable and less expensive than the Yamaha OEM parts, e.g., < $100.

it is usually difficult to kill a sportbike in any big way so:

verify that not only the shift lever is not bent but also the connecting assembly is functional.

put the bike on a rear stand
remove the connecting assembly. if you have enough leverage attempt to shift now with or w/o the clutch engaged. toggle the rear wheel (now off the ground) and see if this improves the shifting.

replace the assembly
put the bike on the ground.
bang the bike fwd/bkw to try to get it to shift w and or w/o the clutch engaged

put the bike on stands, can you start the bike? make sure the kick stand is up clutch in it should start. once started try to get the transmission to obey

adjustable 3rd party barend sets avaliable, maybe for the cost of single side oem. i think there is a moderate priced brand.
use:
ronayers.com //oem discount
kneedraggers.com //3rd party
