Default Reverse gear

sorry this may seem weird, but i went to test drive a s2000 the other day. and unlike the ones i've driven before, the reverse gear on this on wasnt required to be pushed in to engage..was wondering if something could be wrong, and i should avoid

um im not quite sure what u're saying. like when i try to shift to 6th, usually theres a lock out for the reverse gear on the far right side. but on this one, i can slide into the far right without pushing down

It would seem that the spring that holds the stick up is not doing its job. It's either broken, missing or the stick itself is so stiff (up and down wise) that the spring isn't strong enough to keep it in the up position. Can you actually pull the stick up to its normal resting position?

would this be a problem with the spring? is it fixable?
